American Hustle - Jennifer Lawrence steals the show!

I went to see American Hustle with my friend and I have to say, it was not what I expected. It had a very retro-indie feel to it, there were a lot of moments that seemed to fall a bit flat, but, the acting was second to none!

Christian Bale with a horrible comb-over, Jeremy Renner, Amy Adams and her almost breasts (not joking, she puts new meaning to the word "v-neck line"), Bradley Cooper with curls and a hilarious character, but honestly, the star of the entire film was Jennifer Lawrence. I don't just say that as one of her biggest fans, I say that in a legit way! Her character was hilarious and she pulled it off perfectly!

If you haven't seen the film, I suggest you do... it's not a must-see in theatre film, but it is a must-see soon film! Jennifer is amazing!

Neil Burger not directing Insurgent??

“Neil Burger is a rock star and he is doing a fantastic job on Divergent.  We can’t wait for you to see the film.  But as amazing as Neil is he still cannot be in two places at once and thus needs to finish post production on Divergent while we gear up to start production on Insurgent.  So, although Neil will continue on as part of our Divergent family as an executive producer, we sadly have to find another director for the next chapter in Veronica Roth’s fantastic series.”

American Hustle Photo Call in NYC

Jennifer Lawrence is a beauty in blue as she poses at the American Hustle photo call at the Crosby Street Hotel on Sunday morning (December 8) in New York City.
The 23-year-old actress was joined in the pictures by her co-stars Bradley CooperChristian BaleAmy Adams, and Jeremy Renner, as well as director David O. Russell.

FYI: Jennifer is wearing an Alexander McQueen dress, Lanvin shoes, Anita Co jewels, and Wolford tights.

#SNL: Paul Rudd and One Direction FTW

It's been a while since I enjoyed SNL so much!

From One Direction, Special guest appearences by Kristen Wiig, Steve Carrell, Will Ferrell, Fred Armisen, it was star studded.

I loved the new and improved Santa with his "ho ho ho" the opening monologue, Weekend Update, Sound of Music spoof and almost every sketch was pretty awesome. One Direction performed awesomely, I just really enjoyed the whole episode! My favourite, after the opening monologue, was probably Paul Rudd as the creepy #1 One Direction Fan - ha ha so funny!

Here are excerpts of Hypable's recap:

“The Sound of Music Live & Condensed,” and featured a surprise appearance by Kristen Wiig as her now classic character Dooneese! The sketch ended with another surprise appearance by SNL alum Fred Armisen reprising his Lawrence Welk spoof!

Host, Paul Rudd came out with One Direction during his opening monologue. Paul wasn’t to be uptstaged by another musical guest and brings on his own “man band” which features his Anchorman 2 cast Steve Carrell, David Koechner and SNL alum Will Ferrell. Paul affectionately names the guys on the stage Nine Direction as they sing the song “Afternoon Delight.”

Veronica Roth updates fans on Four's Short Stories

According to Veronica Roth's Tumblr The short stories from Four's perspective have been delayed, but will be longer - - so I guess that is good news bad news eh? Here is what she wrote:
Bad News: the three remaining stories from Four’s perspective that I’ve been working on, which were supposed to come out later this year/early next year, have been delayed until July 2014. They’ll be bundled together and sold as a hardcover under the title Four: A Divergent Collection, with some fun extra content, and at that time they will also be released as separate e-stories (so, if you’ve already bought the first one, “The Transfer,” you don’t have to pay again for it in a collection if you don’t want to).
transferIf you are asking, incredulously, “why, Veronica? Why must you do this to us?!" My answer is: the stories turned out much meatier and more substantial than I was originally anticipating when I started them. There’s just so much going on—Tobias’s reunion with his mother, his growing disillusionment with the faction system, and some of his early moments with Tris, to name a few. So I just really, really need more time to get them right. I know it sucks, but I am sure that this extra time will result in better work and better stories for everyone to read.
Okay. Good News:
-If you already pre-ordered the second story, “The Initiate,” your pre-order will not be canceled. It will just take a little longer for you to get it.
-The stories are long. As in, they’re about seventy pages each, so if you add them together you get about 280 pages of Tobias’s story. Which is as long as some novels. So there’s more to read!
-The price for the e-stories will not change, even though they’re longer than anticipated.

-The stories will be better in July than they would have been if they had come out this winter, because I’m going to work my butt off to make them that way!

National Lampoon's Christmas Drinking Game

Found this fun idea at this blog site

What you will need for this game: an excessive amount of beer, a Santa hat & a single shot of your choice

Take One Drink Every Time:
  • Ellen calls Clark "Sparky"
  • Someone is wearing an ugly holiday sweater
  • Clark does something awkward
  • There is singing or music
  • The swimming pool is referenced
  • Clark is wearing a sports team article of clothing, unless of course, you are wearing a Chicago Blackhawks jersey, then that means you are a complete badass & you get to give drinks at each of those parts.

Additional Rules:

The entire group takes a drink whenever an advent calendar door is opened.

You must yell “Shitter’s Full!” any time you leave to use the restroom, otherwise you must finish your beer when you return.

First person to say “Get me somebody! And get me somebody while I'm waiting!” when Frank Shirley appears on screen for the first time chooses a person to finish their drink.

First person to stand up & fully complete the “knock on the door, peek in…” correctly WITH hand gestures during that scene gives two drinks.

At any point in the movie, you can point to someone & yell "RUS!" If they do not respond with "Right here, dad" they must take a drink (max once per person, this could get excessive).

Anytime someone misquotes a line in the movie, they have to wear the Santa hat until it gets passed to the next person. When the movie is over, the last person wearing the Santa hat has to shotgun a beer & finish by saying “Ahh, It’s good, It’s good. It’s good.

Whoever ISN’T up for watching Home Alone immediately after the movie ends has to take the SHOT!

Jeffrey Wright as Beetee, yes, he is black.

I remember the outrage an shock coming from fans over Rue being "black" but also Laurent. [Side note: Catherine Hardwicke said Stephenie described him as "olive skinned" and then said, "and I love black olives" ha ha Oh Catherine!]

Anyhow, this article was shared on facebook by a colleague and I wanted to share it with you. It looks at race and casting and fan reactions... great read!

Catchingfire 1124
After watching Hunger Games: Catching Fire this weekend, I was pleased to see that Beetee, the brilliant inventor and electric genius from District 3, was played by none other than Jeffrey Wright. I was also pleased that I didn't hear any muttering in the theater about the fact that Beetee was black. We all remember the disgusting racist backlash when the first installment of the film cast Amandla Stenberg, a young black actress, as Rue (despite the fact that Rue was indeed black in the book). But my pleasure didn't last long. The next day on the bus, I overheard a young woman and her friends -- who had just come from the film, apparently -- exchanging their thoughts about what they had just seen, and the young woman said, "I thought it was awesome. Well, except for Beetee. Why the f*ck did they make him black? Beetee wasn't black."
Folks. Let me tell you something. You might want to sit down, because this could be a shocker for you. Here it is. Are you ready?
The Hunger Games is not real. (Gasp.) I know. Stunning. This dystopian world in which children are sent into an arena to fight to the death is, in fact, fictional, imaginary, fantastical. And you know what that means. That means that the appearances of the characters therein are also not real. That is, they are subject to the imagination of the reader. Katniss is described as "olive-skinned," which can be interpreted semi-loosely, but Beetee? He was merely described as having "ashen skin" and black hair. Lots to play with there. Right? It's a book. He looks different to all of us in our heads.
But that's not what this is really about, is it? After hearing this young woman's comment, I jumped on Twitter and searched mentions of Beetee's name. I came across the usual racist vitriol...

Fictional Boyfriends...

TEEN.COM listed the hottest YA boyfriends....

I am digging most of these fictional boyfriends, but would most like FOUR as my fictional boyfriend... I am glad they omitted Edward Cullen... agreed - a bit stalkerish non?

Peeta is a bit weak, but I guess, outside of the Hunger Games and without the capitol's interference, he could be pretty awesome... Jacob has his perks... Gus.. man, I am way too into my fictional boyfriends LOL

I would add a few also... who would you choose? who is missing?

Neil Burger talks to MTV about new #Divergent Trailer

MTV had a great sit down with Divergent director Neil Burger to look at the new trailer:
Still reeling from this week's "Divergent" trailer reveal? Yeah, so are we.
Luckily for us (and you), director Neil Burger stopped by MTV News to talk all things "Divergent," walking us through the trailer frame by heart-pumping frame.

Setting the Scene
" 'Divergent' takes place 100 years in the future after some kind of war or catastrophe happened, and society's been reformed into five factions," Burger says, setting the scene of the film. The cast and crew filmed in Chicago, using real, dilapidated buildings for the exterior shots and only utilizing CGI to turn Lake Michigan into a dried-up marsh.

The Aptitude Test That Changes Everything
As heroine Tris Prior, Shailene Woodley undergoes an aptitude test to determine which faction she belongs in. Burger describes the test as a "controlled nightmare," pitting the teen against her darkest fears. Until, that is, she discovers the ability to mentally overcome the test.
"What she learns, as they say, is that her results are inconclusive. She doesn't fit in anywhere and she's what's known as Divergent," Burger says. "She doesn't understand at this point, she just knows that it's dangerous."

Becoming Dauntless
Despite her inconclusive test results, Tris decides to leave the safety of her home faction and attempt to complete a brutal initiation into the Dauntless faction. Her first task?
"The only way they'll allow you to go into Dauntless is, you have to jump off the ledge of this building through this ragged hole," Burger says — and that's after she's forced to leap on and off of a moving train. Talk about hazing.

The Romance/Bootcamp Begins
Enter: Theo James.
Once Tris finds herself inside the Dauntless compound, she comes face-to-face with her instructor, Four, who will lead the young initiates through a grueling boot camp. Burger likens the experience to "being in the Marines, times 10. They shoot, they fight, they throw knives."
In one classic scene from the book, Four throws knives at Tris' head until one finally grazes her ear. "She stands up for a friend, and she's basically punished by having to stand in front of a target and have Four throw these knives at he," Burger explains. "And he can't play it safe, or else he's gonna give himself away. So he actually ends up cutting her with the knife."
Cue the romance (and a shirtless scene!). "He takes his shirt off and he shows this intense tattoo that he has, which in a way represents all five personalities and more," Burger says.

Societal Breakdown
"By the end of the movie everything goes to hell," Burger says, point blank. As the society attempts to eradicate Divergents, Tris and Four team up to fight "as best they can." But, Burger says, "it's almost an impossible situation."

Hunger Games Catching Fire Cast's favourite YA novels

Catching-Fire-London-premiere.jpg

EW readers are in the midst of a bitter battle to crown the greatest YA book of all time. So who better to influence your opinions than the cast of one of the most popular young adult series of the moment — The Hunger Games.

Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss):
“Harry Potter. I was so crazy about Harry Potter I read it twice. All of them twice. I didn’t have a favorite, I thought they were all amazing.”At the London premiere for the upcoming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (in theaters Nov. 22), Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and more opened up about their favorite YA series.
Josh Hutcherson (Peeta): ”I kind of, unfortunately, stuck to what the school made me read. I didn’t get to step out of that zone. I had the opportunity but I just didn’t take advantage of it. But my favorite book growing up was probably Catcher in the Rye. I loved that; it’s a great book.”
Elizabeth Banks (Effie): ”It depends on my age. I guess for the same age as these guys, I was a big fan of the Flowers in the Attic series. I was not really allowed to read those, but I snuck them anyway. I love those books.”
Sam Claflin (Finnick): “Mate, I don’t read. That’s why I got into acting, so I wouldn’t have to read books. I basically played a lot of football growing up — or soccer, whatever you want to call it. Basically, any class at high school that I didn’t have to read or write [in], I got involved. So no, absolutely not, no favorite book or book series…My wife will tell you that I do not read. I literally read Lord of the Flies about a year ago, I’m not kidding. I think this is the third project that I’ve been involved that’s based on a book and, until this franchise, I hadn’t read a single one. But then I did read all three of these in five days.”
Jeffrey Wright (Beetee): ”I was a big fan of The Hardy Boys when I was in elementary school, primary school. So they were probably my favorite series…it’s really pretty cool that we’re part of this franchise that encourages kids to read, much like the Harry Potter series. It also encourages them to take into consideration some of the challenges that we face, contemporarily in society, issues of classism and war and all of those things that as the world gets more and more kind of daft in its interests, you know, that we can encourage younger audiences and younger minds through a popcorn movie to focus on and ask questions about these things. I think it’s a really healthy thing.”
Willow Shields (Prim): “I like any book by John Green. He’s my favorite author ever. He’s amazing. I love him. But right now, I’m reading the last Divergent book [by Veronica Roth], which is really exciting. I’m kind of nervous. I love those books, too.”
Francis Lawrence, director: “I’m not sure about book series. I remember loving — although I guess it might have been when I was a little younger — all the Roald Dahl books. Charlie And The Chocolate FactoryThe Fantastic Mr. Fox. I remember those were the big books for me when I was a kid.”
Jon Kilik, producer: “The things that I think kids like about this are what I liked about Brave New World and Lord of the Flies and 1984. Those were the books I grew up with and that’s what I immediately connected with when I read [The Hunger Games]. I thought this could be that for kids today.”
Nina Jacobson, producer: “I was a huge fan of the Narnia series. I loved them and had the good fortune to get to make those when I was at Disney. I couldn’t get enough of those books when I was a kid.”

New Divergent Poster

Catching Fire reviews are in.... and I am excited!

Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence in "Catching Fire"

I am so excited to attend the premiere in L.A. next week, and these reviews make me even MORE excited...

Yahoo Writes:

Maybe we were distracted by Effie Trinket's special walk (or maybe it was Caesar Flickerman's cotton-candy hair), but we didn't see this coming: The first reviews of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" are in, and they're pretty much awesome across the board (with 14 reviews in so far, the film is currently registering a 93 percent approval rating on the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes). In fact, many of them assert that not only is the franchise's second installment a solid film on its own, but also that it's leaps-and-bounds better than its predecessor.
What exactly makes it better?

We have been asked by Summit Entertainment to share some of our reactions… without giving away too much of course! So… Our conversation went something like this:
April: Okay girls. So you just watched the Trailer… Give me your first reaction’s in 3 words?
Jen: 1.WOW 2. YES. 3. MOOOOOORE!
Mandy: 1. Intense 2. PERFECT 3. SQUEEEEE! (Is Squee a word)
April: I’ll Allow it.
Now my 3 words: 1. HUGE Goofy Grin that I’m sure they could see on the conference call (ok so that’s not a word) 2. OH EM GEE! (again, maybe not a word, but I’ll allow it) 3. HOLY Four’s Voice
Jen: Speaking of Theo’s voice… He practically sold me a car with his voice….
Mandy: That voice could sell cars!

Overall, I think Shailene and Theo capture the characters perfectly, their chemistry is almost tangible and I can NOT wait or March... I want more!!

Doctor Who Countdown - Day of the Doctor

So I am a late bloomer when it comes to Doctor Who. I was interested in a while, but need to watch things from the pilot on ward in order to really watch a series. Sine Doctor Who started before I was born, I kept pushing it off.

THEN, a friend told me I could survive if I started with the ninth Doctor - and so I did.

SPACE channel (nerdy Canadian channel) started airing 8 episodes every Sunday in preparation for the 50th anniversary and so I have (mostly) kept up with those by marathoning episodes as I have time.

I fell a bit behind due to Halloween party planning and work and real life, but I am back at it and almost finished the tenth Doctor (David Tennant *swoons*) and ready to start the eleventh doctor soon (Matt Smith, who I met at Comic-Con in July.. saved his life actually #truestory )

Unfortunately, the local theatres sold out of the 50th anniversary Doctor Who tickets, but I have plans to go to a friend and colleagues house to watch unless we can somehow score some tickets if they release more.

Day of the Doctor Nov. 23 - who will be watching?

Hypable compiled a list of the particularly awesome things we see in this short preview:
0:07 – Gallifrey, seemingly before the Time War.
0:20 – Our first official look at Smith and Tennant working together in character.
0:25 – There’s a view of Rose with her eyes looking all Bad Wolf-y.
0:29 – Clara disappearing via the Vortex manipulator, which can be a throwback to Captain Jack’s own Vortex manipulator.
0:034 – John Hurt’s Doctor mysteriously reaching for a diamond. Could this be what he used to end the Time War?
We’re ridiculously excited about this trailer, as it gives us a whole new look into what the 50th anniversary Doctor Who special has to offer.
Earlier this week the synopsis for the trailer was released, which reads, “The Doctors embark on their greatest adventure in this 50th anniversary special. In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s own dangerous past comes back to haunt him.”

Hunger Games Theme Parks may be coming....

This would be epic-amazing! I absolutely LOVE Harry Potter World, and can only imagine how amazing it would be to visit a "Hunger Games" theme park... compete in the arena? Ride the train into the capitol? visit the different districts? go though training? hmmmm.... Sounds like lot's of possibilities!

Variety reports:

Lionsgate is exploring getting into the theme-park business, taking advantage of its blockbuster “Hunger Games” franchise.
CEO Jon Feltheimer made the disclosure Friday during a conference call with analysts following release of the studio’s quarterly earnings report.
Feltheimer said Lionsgate had been approached about “Hunger Games” theme parks in two territories and was considering those possibilities. He gave no further details.
The CEO’s disclosure came in response to an analyst question about which areas of “Hunger Games” merchandising had performed well. Motion Picture Group Co-Chairman Rob Friedman had said that Lionsgate was “very excited” by sales of the “Capitol Couture” line of attire.

Theo James voice for car commercial

Thanks to my bloggy sisters at Trisandfour.com for finding this!!

Theo James, Four/Tobias in the Divergent movie, is the voice in this commercial... the accent, the tone, very sexy!

Divergent Character Poster: Miles Teller as Peter

Fandango released the last character poster for this week's 'poster a day' campaign from Summit/Lionsgate.

Check out Miles Teller as Peter Hayes, the central antagonist in the film and one of Tris' mortal enemies!

Who was your fave this week? Christina was the one I was most looking forward too and not going to lie - pretty bad ass! She was my most favourite to meet at Comic-Con of the 5 this week.

Homeland Season 3 continues to surprise...

Hypable writes:

One of Homeland’s exciting aspects this season is its ability to be completely unpredictable (for better or for worse). Once we learn what Saul wants out of Javadi, perhaps the season’s endgame will become clearer.
We suspect his ideas may have something to do with Brody. We’re also certain that whatever Saul has in mind, it has to be done in time for him to show the president that he can remain CIA Director.
Another clip from Homeland season 3, episode 7 depicts Adal telling Quinn that he’s the lead suspect in episode 6′s double murder thanks to a security camera at a neighbor’s home.
Episode 7 “Icarus” airs Sunday, November 10 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on Showtime.

Divergent Character poste: Zoe Kravitz as Christina

Huffington Post has the exclusive today for Divergent's daily character poster reveals. This is the one I have been most waiting for - Zoe Kravitz as Christina...

Of course you can see all the posters and fan art and animated posters at the official Divergent Tumblr site here.

Divergent Character poster: Eric - Jai Courtney

Eric is a brutal force with a damaged moral compass. His cruel training methods and ruthless leadership make him a quick adversary to Tris, the Abnegation transfer and protagonist of the story.

Mekhi Phifer - MAX - Divergent Poster

It's day two of new Divergent character posters. We get a new one each day…. today is MAX!
Mekhi Phifer will play Max and here is his new character poster:

You can see the animated version at Divergent’s Official Tumblr site.
As Max has said of his faction, "Dauntless is about ordinary acts of bravery and having the courage to stand up for another. Respect that, Do us proud."
So who do you predict we will see tomorrow?

Giggly Veronica Roth excited for Divergent Movie

veronica
Divergent author Veronica Roth has revealed her excitement about the forthcoming film adaptation of her debut novel.
The 25-year-old, who recently completed the Divergent trilogy with the release of Allegiant, told Digital Spy that she is "giggly" at the prospect of seeing her novel turned into a movie
"I've never seen behind that curtain before," she said. "Now I see that it's tough to make a movie. There's a lot of detail. It makes me a little giggly."

We are giggly too Veronica! The countdown to March is on.... The article also talks about how Veronica Roth came up with some ideas for Divergent.... while studying exposure therapy..
"Exposure therapy is when they repeatedly expose someone to a thing that stimulates their fear response in a safe environment," she explained.
"Someone who's afraid of heights is continually put in a glass elevator because it's safe but it's high.
"I thought it would be interesting if someone were to apply that therapy technique to regular, healthy people to make them fear something.
"That was where the idea came from. It all started with the creepy stuff and the rest sort of came out around it."

I love the idea and the story of how she came to create the Dauntless faction!
Asked if she is hoping to see all three of her Divergent novels turned into movies, Roth replied: "That'd be cool. I hope that it does well and people like it but obviously there's no guarantee."

True... but I have a feeling she has nothing to worry about... if every fan of the book sees the movie once, she is set...
