The Great Gatsby.... Loved it!

I took my daughter to see The Great Gatsby finally and we loved the movie.

I have to preface this with the fact that I hadn't last read the book in a quite a few years, I loved Baz's Romeo & Juliet, and the movie was full of some amazing actors I admire.

Now, having said that, I have to add the other reasons I absolutely loved the movie.

1. I saw it in 3D and I thought the cinematography was stunning. The parties were my favourite, obviously, but it just brought everything to life. I often dislike 3D too!

2. I loved the way the story unfolded, with Tobey Maguire at the start and end and the way it all came together.

3. I love Tobey and Leo together, they are best friends in real life and I can only imagine how much fun the filming would have been.

4. The humour. I loved Leo as Gatsby, the "tea party" scene was so funny.... he captured Gatsby's eccentric side very well.

5. The fashion. I loved the costumes, especially the hats. My daughter, who chopped all her hair off last September to donate to cancer, loved seeing all the short - haired girls.

6. The music. Such a juxtaposition between old jazz music from the era and modern rap and pop songs. I laughed so loud when Gatbsy was driving irratically down the street and passed the car of 'gangstas' and rap music started playing. It was funny but fitting.

7. It told the story well, like if you hadn't read the book (like my daughter) you could still follow the plot well.

Have you seen it? Thoughts?

The Great Gatsby Set Photos

P2P writes:

Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire were snapped on the set of The Great Gatsby in Australia, by E! Online! How awesome do they look? It’s amazing that just from this photo, you can see Leo embodying the character of Gatsby. Just think of how different he looks from his role in J.Edgar! Also, Carey Mulligan is looking adorable, wearing a purple flapper dress in our first snap of her as Daisy Buchanan. Some were thinking she didn’t fit the role, and she certainly isn’t the obvious choice, but I’m convinced we’ll be blown away by her performance. The 1920′s costumes look fantastic, and I’m eagerly anticipating the first official stills and clips. This epic Great Gatsby adaptation is directed by Baz Luhrmann, and has a budget of $150 million.

I can NOT WAIT!!!

Baz Lurhmann's The Great Gatsby

I loved Baz's Romeo & Juliet in 1996 so this idea is exciting. Plus, the cast sound absolutely superb!!

Hollywood Reporter writes:

Isla Fisher is in negotiations to join Baz Lurhmann’s 3D adaptation of The Great Gatsby being made by Warner Bros. Fisher will join Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan.

DiCaprio is pegged to play the wealthy and mysterious Jay Gatsby, while Maguire is playing Nick Carraway, who in the novel is the narrator. Mulligan is playing Gatsby’s love, Daisy Buchanan, who is married to a wealthy chap named Tom Buchanan, whom Affleck would play if his deal makes.

Fisher will play Myrtle, a married woman having an affair with Buchanan.

Tobey Maguire cast in Life of Pi

Hollywood Reporter writes:

Tobey Maguire has booked a part in Ang Lee’s adaptation of Yann Martel’s bestselling novel Life of Pi.

The story centers on a 16-year-old Indian boy, played by Suraj Sharma, whose passage to a new life in America aboard a freighter ends in a shipwreck in the Pacific. He is left to fend for himself on a life raft with an orangutan, hyena and Bengal tiger.

Irrfan Khan (Slumdog Millionaire) is playing the adult Pi, who is being interviewed by a reporter. Maguire will play the reporter in a bit role consisting of several days worth of work.

The movie is currently shooting in India.

Maguire’s next major role will be that of Nick Carraway in Baz Lurhmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby.

I really loved this book and was excited to hear it was finally being made into a movie. I am glad to hear his name attached even if it is a small role.

Growing Pain. Leonardo DiCaprio is in town - I saw with my two eyes!

My exciting evening last night...

Remember Growing Pain? Leonardo DiCaprio was the cutie I had a crush on and little did I know, would continue to crush on for several years...

It's been a while since I looked at Leo and swooned, let's face it, cute boys don't always grow up into sexy men, but Leo still has a lil something that gets my heart racing...

Anyways, yesterday I went by the set of Riding hood (director Catherine Hardwicke, starring Amanda Seyfreid and Shiloh Fernandez, the 2nd choice for Edward in Twilight... Billy Burke is also in it... Lukas Haas is also in it and he is friends with Leonardo DiCaprio who is also producer of the movie and they are friends with Tobey Maguire who just happens to be in town also, maybe for no other fact than to chill with friends?!?! His co-star from Spiderman, James Franco is also in town filming Apes Prequel and Tobey's friends with Leo and Lukas)

ANYWAYS - - -

I went by the set, it was late, after working 12 hours, I was alone, I waited, I watched, I saw Leo walk by, I almost died.

I have a very dark, blurry, crappy video... I didn't shout out, I didn't talk to him, I basically froze up.... I saw him between the trailers and he was talking to someone else who I couldn't see (a guy, could be crew, security, Tobey? though the voice was deeper than Tobey's usually is, no I couldn't hear what they were saying but i could hear the tone of voice and it seemed deeper than Tobey's but what do I know) he ran his hand through his hair, it's on my crappy, blurry, dark video, then he glanced my way and kept walking til I couldn't see him because of another vehicle in the way...

that's my story... not as exciting as I hoped but I saw him with my own eyes and for me - that is something worth remembering ....

now if the opportunity to talk to him arises... well, that would be BETTER but if it doesn't I am content with what I got... *le sigh*

still got the long hair...

If you want photos you can go to laineygossip.com as Punkd_Images got some sweet shots, oh to have a nice expensive fancy camera to capture moments with *le sigh*

I will post my video sometime over the weekend, it is disappointing to be honest, but whatever...

No more Spiderman 4

Tobey Maguire and filmmaker Sam Raimi have quit Spiderman 4 over a reported script issue.

Just last week (ends08Jan10), a Columbia studios source revealed the sequel had been put on hold indefinitely due to script problems.

And now Daily Variety reports the film's star and director have departed the project, and Columbia executives are planning to make a prequel about Spider-Man's alter-ego, Peter Parker, as a teenager instead.

James Vanderbilt has already written a script for the alternative, which will be produced by Marvel Comics boss Avi Arad and movie mogul Laura Ziskin.

Raimi, who publicly expressed his dislike for the idea behind Spider-Man 4, says, "While we (Maguire and I) were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job."

A new director and star will be announced in the coming weeks.

Mandy's Mind - This blows. I mean, could a new script not just be "re-done"? This reeks of something more doesn't it? I mean, if the script was shitty, they could re-vamp it... ah well, a prequel will be interesting... maybe... I want James Franco!
