CONFIRMED: Darren Criss to take over for Daniel Radcliffe in Broadway's 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying'

There were rumours that Darren Criss would replace Daniel Radcliffe in How to Succeed in Business without really trying but not it has been confirmed! Daniel Radcliffe's last performance will be January 1, 2012, after which time, Darren Criss will take over for at least 3 weeks.

LA Times writes:

Darren Criss, who plays the character Blaine Anderson on Fox's "Glee," will make his Broadway debut in January after Daniel Radcliffe leaves the Broadway revival of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."

Organizers confirmed Monday the rumors that Criss will take the lead role of J. Pierrepont Finch in the musical, playing at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Radcliffe is scheduled to leave the show Jan. 1, and Criss will step in for three weeks from Jan. 3 to 22. It's unclear if the musical will continue beyond that date, though at least one report indicates that the producers want it to.

It's so ironic, since Darren Criss first made himself known from doing the Harry POtter Musical on youtube, and now he is taking over for "Harry Potter" on broadway!

Darren Criss to hit Broadway?

Darren Criss fans know of his youtube hit, A Very Harry Potter Musical. Looks like Darren may take over for Daniel Radcliffe aka the original Harry Potter, on broadway.

According to EW.com, Glee's Criss is in discussions to take over Daniel Radcliffe's role in Broadway's How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. (The story was first reported by Deadline.com)

I saw How to Succeed a couple months ago when I was in New York and was so impressed by Daniel Radcliffe, but if Darren Criss took over the role, I would absolutely go see it again! How amazing! I love the starkid!

At the Glee Panel at SDCC 2011 the broadway rumour was addressed:
10:37 - Brad Falchuk says Kurt and Blane are "solid" in their relationship. Darren Criss talked about it a little too. The audience is going nuts for him.

10:39 - Darren Criss asked about going to Broadway. He's being vague on his answer and says he can't confirm anything. Time for audience questions.

10:40 - Darren asked about his solo album. He says he's not sure if his time will allow for more of that with Glee and a "hypothetical Broadway musical."

So, time will tell if this broadway deal pans out, but regardless I see many more great things coming from the starkid Darren Criss... and I am thrilled about it!

Glee Returns Tonight!

I am so excited!!! In celebration here is a story of the "REAL" Warblers....

Side Note: Darrn Criss Rules!

It only took the first few notes of the Dalton Academy Warblers' a cappella crooning to capture the attention of "Glee" fans everywhere when they sang Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" in November, with the single taking the No. 1 spot on the Billboard chart. The latest "Glee" compilation, "Glee: The Music Presents the Warblers" comes out in stores Tuesday.

Wicked Miniseries

I love Wicked. I moderate one of the largest facebook fan pages for WICKED.

I have to admit, I have not seen Wicked the musical yet due to schedule, money and location. But I have heard the soundtrack AND most importantly, read, re-read and shared Gregory Maguire's novel 'Wicked' which the musical is based, as well as it's sequel 'Son of a Witch' and \A Lion Among Men'. I am a huge fan of Gregory Maguire's writing and have several of his other books also. He is also allegedly working on a 4th in the 'Wicked' series tentatively titled 'Out of Oz'

Anyways, there will soon be a miniseries based on the book...

Deadline reports:

ABC is looking to get back in the event mini-series business with Wicked, an eight-hour mini-series produced by Salma Hayek, TVLine's Michael Ausiello reports. The project is not based on the highly-successful Broadway musical but on Gregory McGuire's bestselling book that spawned it. Despite a long tradition of TV musicals like Cinderella, Annie and The Music Man at ABC that flourished under Susan Lyne as head of TV movies and mini-series and then entertainment president, the genre disappeared from the network under Lyne's successor Stephen McPherson. In fact, McPherson passed on the Wicked mini-series a couple of year ago, a decision that was reversed by new ABC president Paul Lee. Wicked, which is in active development, is being produced by ABC Studios and Hayek and Jose Tamez's studio-based Ventanarosa Prods. Erik Jendersen (Band of Brothers) is writing the script. For now, there are no plans for Hayek to star. Coincidentally, ABC and ABC Studios are developing a comedy musical series starring Idina Menzel, who originated the role of Elphaba in the Wicked Broadway musical, winning a Tony for the part. The musical, perennial top Broadway grosser that premiered in 2003, is currently being developed as a feature.

I am quite excited. If you have NOT read 'Wicked' - - - DO IT!
