Reality TV Updates - March 21-26, 2010

Here are my thoughts on this week's reality television shows that I follow...

Amazing Race

I still haven't watched the episode. I was spoiled on twitter that Jeff & Jordan go home and honestly, I have no intereste to watch it anytime soon.... in fact, I almost don't want to watch at all. I grew very little attachment to anyone but them. In fact, I hadn't watched the past couple seasons as I felt burned out from the whole show, the big brother pair were the only reason I decided to tune in again and give it a try. I am sure I will get to it, we shall see, my Sunday line-up is pretty full, I may cut it out all together til the finale.

Dancing with the Stars

I have never watched a whole season of this. This will be my first. My first impression... they use the term "stars" very loosely....

Though I caught a few episodes here and there of paste seasons, for some reason I never stayed hooked. Like Amazing Race took Big Brother fan faves and put them on the show, DWTS took Jake, the most recent Bachelor and made him a dancing contestent... way to cross-over reality tv with reality tv eh?

I love Jake's dancer Chelsie from SYTYCD and I am also interested to see how Octo-mom Kate Gosselin does, she irritates me beyond belief. No elimination til next week, but I predict Chad Ochocinco and/or Buzz Aldrin would be first to go due to poor dancing.. then again, the show is based on votes right? So really, it doesn't matter how you dance if you have fans ha ha

I really like Evan Lysacek and predict he will do well because he has athleticism and also because he is a USA fave after bringing home a gold medal at the recent Vancouver Winter Olympics. Niecy Nash is annoying but I LOVE her outlook for big women and hope she sticks around long enough to keep spreading that message!

Time will tell, one dance can't convince me either way on any dancer.

American Idol

Finally, Paige went home! If she hadn't I would have stopped watching otherwise.... she should have gone home 2 weeks ago in my opinion!

There are a few more who need to be weeded out so we can get to the winners. My opinions have changed from auditions, to first few weeks to now.

A few greats have gone and a few not.so.rgeats remain.... Lee and Didi hadn't stood out early on but do now to me. Andrew Garcia was a fave in auditions and is less so now.

I still love Casey... and Siobhan is surprising me.

It's still hard to call... after seeing who America sent home too soon it's impossible to call a winner, but I love Casey and Siobhan at this stage.... Katie to go next.... then maybe Tim... or vice versa.

America's Next Top Model

This show is so annoying. Ren was the only half-decent, non-drama girl and she is gone... sucks she succumbed to the house drama.... those girls are ANNOYING! Next week look interesting.... I feel like I did the first weeks of American Idol, let's fast forward a few weeks and weed out the crap.

Alasia has GOT to go OMG and Angelea and Brenda - - - kick them out.... from who is left I do like Simone though I find her awkwardly pagenty and Raina I keep changing my mind on.... it's too early still, and the editing on this show makes me mad.... for example, I loved Naduah - then, in one episode they made her go from nice, disadcantaged, trauma girl to total pathological liar.... *sigh* impossible to judge these "characters" when editing only shows us pieces and all at once....

Survivor

Russell vs Boston Rob... wow! That was intense, I loved how Rob had a plan (get Russell to flush out idol), then Russell guessed how it could go and counter-acted (get Tyson out), then Rob thought of what he would do if he were Russell and counter-acted (try to get Rob's allie out since Rob had idol), then Russell counter-acted even THAT (convincing Tyson to vote differently so it wasn't a three-vote tie)!

Russell is the MAN! He GAVE away his idol (which will impress "moral-ridden" Coach as well as Pavarti who was saved by the idol) and because of Tyson's vote for Pavarti instead of Russell, Russell was saved and Tyson left... GENIUS!

Russell really is the best ever! He should have won last season and he should win this season, though I don't think he will as everyone will be out to get him!

This season is tough... all my faves from past seasons (Colby, Rupert, Russell, Boston Rob, JT etc) are back and I am seeing different sides of them (Angry Rupert, Lazy Colby, Snakey JT, etc) it's strange.

I am deffo rooting for Russell #1... though I still adore JT, he did win already so - whateva.... and Rob... well... meh.. Amber got it before, he also got Amber, 'nuff of a win right?

Time will tell.

Last night Jeanine Mason won So You Think You Can Dance, and she got to co-host a morning program where Ashley Greene was interviewed. Jeanine is the second person in the top twenty dancers to declare her Twilight love. Fellow contestant Randi professed her Twilight love on her Facebook page. On a side not the entire admin team LOVES So You Think You Can Dance. We wonder, can they do a tribute to Twilight dance on their upcoming tour! Seriously, Jeanine would make a great Bella. Kayla would rock as Rosalie. Any other thoughts?

SYTYCD Season 5 Finale

First and Foremost - Congrats to Jeanine.....

She was not a favourite from the start for me, though I always found her stunning, but she worked hard and definately pulled ahead. And 21.6 million votes came in... amazing!!!

If twitter's trending topics had anything to say about it (and really, they do when it's a fan voting based show) Jeanine was predicted to win as of last night when she was ahead of the other four for trending topics.... and then today when her name was the only one still in trending topics....

It was an amazing Top 4 and I was really thinking Kayla could have won but Brandon would, simply because men always seem to win on that darn show.



I have to say I really thought Brandon would win it... I am so glad Jeanine did... was shocked Kayla came in 4th, however, she is such an amazing young lady I see a bright future for her regardless.....

Evan... oh Evan... underdog since day one and a HUGE fan fave...

Pure SYTYCD had an insider tidbit from the Performance show last night:

“…the amount of criticism the judges gave Evan became torturous (they cut a lot of it from the actual show) to the point where everyone felt so bad they started chanting Evan’s name. Sympathy win is more than possible – its likely. However, Jeanine had the most fans there. I would love to see her win it.”

I love Evan and can't wait to see his brother on Season 6 startnig in September.

My opinions -

Loved Jeanine and Brandon to Battlefield, Jeanette and Evan's 1st routine, Melissa and Ade's 2nd routine (how could you not - sooo moving - it deffo saved them i think!) and OF COURSE Shane Spark's routine for Kayla and Jason.

Bottom 4 were

Jeanette and Kayla - SHOCKING!! They were my top 2 and I thought Melissa and Jeanine would have been bottom two with jeanine going home - though I love them all at this point...

Jason and Brandon - SHOCKING.... I thought it would have been Evan and Ade with Evan going home.

While my cable got shoddy during Katie Holmes thing - I wasn't too terribly upset, whatevs... though it's all for a great cause - -

July 8 So You Think You Can Dance - My Thoughts...

Melissa Sandviga and Ade Obayomi danced Disco to the song “Move On Up” —Destination choreographed by Doriana Sanchez
Wow, Ade was powerful in this.... Melissa, as always, was beautiful.

Melissa Sandviga and Ade Obayomi danced Waltz to the song “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” —Mary J. Blige choreographed by Ron Montez
I really enjoyed the "raw"ness of this routine.

I think they may be bottom three, however, because they didn't really stand out... at least to me.

Kayla Radomski and Kupono Aweau danced Contemporary to the song “Gravity” —Sara Bareilles choreographed by Mia Michaels
This was absolutely amazing to me. Kayla without make-up, very emotional, the clip before def. showed the closeness Kapono felt to the theme (Addiction) and I think it was amazing and beautifully executed.

Kayla Radomski and Kupono Aweau danced Broadway to the song “The Dance At the Gym” from West Side Story choreographed by Joey Dowling
I really liked it a lot but i preferred their first routine.

Caitlin Kinney and Jason Glover danced Foxtrot to the song “Minnie the Moocher” —Big Bad Voodoo Daddy choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin
I love Caitlin and Jason and I really liked this routine.

Caitlin Kinney and Jason Glover danced Lyrical jazz to the song “Show Me Heaven” —Maria McKee choreographed by Mandy Moore
This was so beautiful and graceful and wonderful.... Still, I think they may be tossed into the Bottom 3 again :(

Jeanine Mason and Phillip Chbeeb danced Russian folk dance to the song “Kalinka” —Barynya choreographed by Youri Nelzine and Lilia Babenko
I agree with "Dizzy feet" it wasn't great... I felt it very.... commercially Russian... if that makes sense...

Jeanine Mason and Phillip Chbeeb danced Jive to the song “Stuff Like That There” —Bette Midler choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin
I thought they did wonderfully in this but I fear it may not be enough to keep them out of the tbottom three, despite Phillip's huge following

Randi Evans and Evan Kasprzak danced Hip-hop to the song “Halo” —Beyoncé Knowles choreographed by Tabitha D’umo and Napoleon D’umo
Um - hello? WONDERFUL! I was so very impressed with the way they did this, I agree that NappyTabs chereographed to their strengths, allowing them to be themselves within the hip hop and it worked... well!

Randi Evans and Evan Kasprzak danced Samba to the song “Ritmo De Bum Bom”—Jababa choreographyed by Anya Garnis and Pasha Kovalev
This was a good routine but they weren't passionate enough, they are so cute together, I am sad to see the couple split next week.

Janette Manrara and Brandon Bryant danced Argentine Tango to the song “Libertango” from Forever Tango choreographed by Miriam Larici and Leonardo Barrionuevo
This was amazing. I am not an expert so I wasn't sure if they were nailing those leg moves or not... but the judges say they did and they are the experts...

Janette Manrara and Brandon Bryant danced Jazz to the song “Ruby Blue” —Róisín Murphy choreographed by Wade Robson

A-friggin'-MAZING.... Wade Robson is freaking awesome, these two dancers are freaking awesome, if they were in bottom three i'd wonder what American was smoking ...

So bottom three - my predictions - - -

Jeanine Mason and Phillip Chbeeb

Melissa Sandviga and Ade Obayomi

Caitlin Kinney and Jason Glover

Not that I WANT that I just predict that...

And without seeing their solo's I would say Jason and Caitlin go home... *shrugs* I really don't know.... I worry Evan and Randi may be bottom 3 and that would throw things around.... also Phillip may have come as far as he can, he always rocks the solos and he is growing with all these new styles and his fan base is high... as is Kayla's.... despite being thrown in bottom 3... argh! I don't know this week... I really don't!

SYTYCD Mary Murphy

NY POST feels Mary Murphy, SYTYCD Judge had to dial itback a bit....

GOOD news, everyone. We've figured out why your eardrums have been bleeding this summer.

The blame falls squarely with resident ballroom spaz Mary Murphy, a permanent judge on "So You Think You Can Dance"

.....

Whether she's on a prolonged screaming spree after a dance she particularly enjoyed or she's throwing contestants on her tired "Hot Tamale Train" (with seats reserved for especially spicy dancers), Murphy's loopy, skyrocketing-decibel schtick is officially beyond painful after five seasons

............

Murphy certainly has the knowledge and the experience to be a sharp judge on the show, particularly of the ballroom-style dances, which are her forte.

But for every thoughtful comment about the flow and quality of a dancer’s movement, Murphy gives us one like: “Achoo! I’m allergic to down feathers, what can I say. But I wasn’t allergic to that routine!”

If this were Murphy’s only flaw, we could chalk it up to “hearty enthusiasm” and call it a day. Alas, it is not so.

She also has a nasty penchant for reaffirming her own statements, as in, “What you are selling there, I am buying, yes I am!”

And when she isn’t struggling to move her Botox-tempered eyebrows, she may very well turn on the waterworks and sob over a dance that touched her.

During auditions, she bawled over contemporary dancer Brandon Bryant’s performance, saying, “If you don’t make it to the Top 20, I think I’ll just die this year.” (Sniff, sob.)

Bryant made it. Our ears are not so lucky.

It’s too bad that her cringe-worthy antics cause many to hit the mute button whenever it’s her turn to critique a dance.

I actually agreed with Mia, the chain was distracting didn't expect bottom 3 but REALLY enjoyed their solos

I can't believe still that Kayla and Kapono were in the bottom three with THIS dance... THIS song and THESE TWI FANS?!?!?!

They both made it through with their solo's but this routine is *NOT* bottom three material!!!

SYTYCD Results Show Thursday June 25, 2009

The show opened with a bang I especially enjoyed the dancing in the water....

Group hip-hop dance to the song “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” -Pitbull (Choreographer: Dmitry Chaplin, Napoleon & Tabitha D’umo)

Nigel's speech about the death of MJ King of Pop def. dampened the mood, but I have to say I am glad the show still went on.

Bottom Three Couple... I predicted 2/3 and I was not shocked that Asuka and Jason went home.

Musical guest: “Take Me On The Floor” —The Veronicas
Guest dancers: The Rage Boys Crew: “Feel It”—Colby O’Donis and Mauli-B

These kids were incredibly cute.

Dance for Their Life Solos:
Asuka Kondoh: “Don’t Trust Me” —3OH!3

-She went home, so it wasn't fantastic, obviously.

Vitolio Jeune: “Viva La Vida” —Coldplay

-I enjoyed the dance

Karla Garcia: “15 Step” — Radiohead

-If Twi-Fans were choosing the winner they would have picked her, simply due to the song... even my daughter said "THIS SONG IS ON TWILIGHT!!!!" Besides that, her dance was pretty awesome!

Jonathan Platero: “The Hunted” — Kodo

-He went home, his dance was a bit frantic and too much acrobatics

Caitlin Kinney: “Que Sera Sera” —Jennifer Terran

- Amazing routine, she was stunning, shocked she was in bottom 3 couples.

Jason Glover: “New American Classic” —Taking Back Sunday

-I enjoyed his routine, I was shocked he was in bottom 3 couples

Top 16 on SYTYCD

Last Night-

Karla Garcia and Jonathan Platero danced Hip-hop to the song “By My Side” —Jadakiss featuring Ne-Yo choreographed by Dave Scott

I feel as though these guys may be bottom 3. I really liked the routine and it was smooth and slow as far as hip hop goes but quite enjoyable. It could have been harder hitting and the judges seemed extremely harsh... Nigel was in some kindamood eh? We shall see tonight.

Asuka Kondoh and Vitolio Jeune danced Jazz to the song “Heartbreaker” —Pat Benatar choreographed by Mandy Moore

Well the clip for these guys def. helped them... we saw a softer side to an otherwise confident (even kinda slutty) Asuka and a caring side to Vitolio... as well as a funny side with him all dressed up... I really liked that we got to see more about them. I am still not a fan of Asuka but I do like Vitolio a lot more... I still see them in bottom 3 tonight

Melissa Sandvig and Ade Obayomi danced Rumba to the song “Emotion” —Destiny’s Child choreographed by Tony Meredith

I really liked this routine and I don't usually care for the slow ones. Ade was fabulous and Melissa really shone. beautiful outfit she pulled off too. I have a soft place in my heart for her because she is older and still following her dreams but I think they should be safe...

Janette Manrara and Brandon Bryant danced Hip-hop to the song “What a World” —Common choreographed by Dave Scott

I think this was my fave of the night. I loved the "juxtaposition" of the rocker and hip hopper (as the judges mentioned) and Brandon is absolutely amazing!!! Def safe this week!

Kayla Radomski and Kupono Aweau danced a Viennese Waltz to the song “Sweet Dreams” —Jewel choreographed by Jean-Marc Généreux

Really shocked at the instant chemistry between these two as a new pairing. Beautifully performed. I think they will be safe, Kayla seems to have a great following and Kupono is so charasmatic.

Randi Evans and Evan Kasprzak danced Contemporary to the song “Koop Island Blues” —Koop featuring Ane Brun choreographed by Mia Michaels

Oh Mia, She is insane... I tend to not like her routines, as far as insane I prefer Sonya... anyways, this was good, i love this couple together anyways and the botty focus was quirky and funny and I think although simple it will be memorable as Nigel said and they should be safe.

Caitlin Kinney and Jason Glover danced a Paso Doble to the song “O Fortuna” —Mozaretum Orchestra Salzburg & Kurt Prestel choreographed by Jean-Marc Généreux

I love them both but I think they could have had harder hitting movements. I mean, the judges mentioned Jason needing to have his chest held high, and eye contact, and it hink even their stops and reversals could have been more exaggerated and strong. STOP, go go STOP... you know what I am saying? I think and I hope they will be safe.

I really love Philip and have learned to adore Jeanine and I really did like this routine. I know what the judges are saying about missing the mark in some aspects, but it was playful and fun.... I hope they are safe but I think they may be the last couple inthe final 3

SYTYCD June 17 Performance Show

Here is how it went down last night... I had been at the bar so I watched it at 3am still tipsy... my opinions are just mine... please feel free to discuss :)

Randi Evans and Evan Kasprzak danced Jive to the music “Shake A Tail Feather”—Ray Charles choreographed by Louis van Amstel

I enjoyed this routine, it was perfect for them really. They are both awesome. I loved their energy.

Melissa Sandvig and Ade Obayomi danced Jazz to the music “24 Hours” (The Aston Shuffle A-Bomb Remix) —Terry Poison choreographed by Sonya Tayeh

I love Sonya in all her strangeness. And I really like Melissa, maybe since she is older, I kind of respect that she is still going after it... Lil C calling Ade his fave was shocking, but isn't most of Lil C's remarks LOL.... I really enjoyed watching this routine.

Caitlin Kinney and Jason Glover danced Hip-hop to the music “Missin’ You” —Trey Songz choreographed by Shane Sparks

Love Shane Sparks, Love this couple, but Jason EASILY stood out between the two and I feel she struggled to keep up.... we shall see...

Janette Manrana and Brandon Bryant danced Disco to the music “Loving Is Really My Game”—Brainstorm choreographed by Doriana Sanchez

OK I think Janette oversold the facial expressions, it was too "dancer" imo.... but her lifts and moves were off-the-hook, seriously... how does one bend that way, it was like a barbie whose lower half was twisted around backwards!!! Brandon I still love, LilC gave him some props which was shocking after auditions, and overall the routine was HELLA fast and entertaining.

Asuka Kondoh and Vitolio Jeune danced Waltz to the music “Dreams Are More Precious” —Enya choreographed by Louis van Amstel

Well, I am not a fan of Asuka and Vitolio is growing on me, but not fast enough, I think these 2 will go home this week (or at least Asuka) we shall see tonight... but this was just a pretty dance... I know I am a tad biased, I prefer the upbeat dances, and the slow ones have to have something really "special" about them to captivate me... this had a few nice turns and lines and the dress was beautiful... but other than that... meh!

Kayla Radomski and Max Kapitannikov danced Pop-Jazz to the song “Hot Like Wow” —Nadia Oh choreographed by Brian Friedman

I realllllly love Kayla, her outfit, her look, her moves, her power.... Max wasn't bad either, but I am still indifferent to him.... I think she will carry him and hopefully improve/stand-out before he is sent packing...

Karla Garcia and Jonathan Platero danced a Contemporary piece to the song “Falling Slowly” —The Frames choreographed by Stacey Tookey (Original The Frames Music Video )

I really didn't care for these two much but I had no idea she was a member of the "Boogie Bots" who I love don ABDC and also their routine last night was good... i mean, Jonathan stopped smiling and had emotion, i loved the head rolls of her shoulder, it was nice.

Jeanine Mason and Phillip Chbeeb danced Tango to the music “Violento (Up Mix)”–Bailongo! choreographed by Tony Meredith

I love Phillip and Jeanine has grown on me quickly, but this routine was .... not good... I am no expert of dance, and it was 3am and I was drunk, but I didnt' enjoy this very much, though Philips hip twists were fun to watch ;)

Ashley Valerio and Kupono Aweau danced Hip-hop to the music “Imma Be” —The Black Eyed Peas choreographed by Shane Sparks

Another Shane Sparks, I was sad his two routines kinda fell short, not on him, but the dancers didn't nail them.... This routine could have easily taken the show, it was creative and could have been amazing HAD the dancers pulled it off, being a shadow means EXACT synch, and it was not there... I like them both, I don't think they have a huge following *yet* I hope they stick around long enough to get that...

SYTYCD 1st elimination - Tony & Paris

I loved Shane Sparks' opening routine. The 20 dancers did an awesome job and Shane is amazing!!!! By comparison, Sean Kingston should hire some of SYTYCD dancers, his girls were... well, not very good dancers, maybe strippers?

The show was good, I like that they plan to feature different dance styles each week, although, honestly, when I PVR I just want to fast forward through anything that's too slow...

Elimination

I have to say - I wouldn't have chosen those two to go home, but I am not a judge nor do I have any kind of dance training (or ability for that matter)



I really liked Tony, he was charasmatic and charming.... though so were some of the male dancers who didn't make Top 20 so I can't really base my opinion on that. Paris was fun to watch, not one of my faves, but there were people I like less than her that stayed.... well, 18 dancers left.... excited to see some of the routines this year, it's a great bunch of dancers!!!

Here's my thoughts - if you care - on the remaining 18:

Kaitlin - she is pretty, she has passion,

Melissa - just because she is older and says "Naughty ballerina" alot LOL

Brandon - I like him, he has that smile that melts you and kind of reminds me of JOshua's Smile... tho without the braces ha ha ha. I think he is fantastic and thought Mia was rough on him, but time will tell.

Kasprzak Brothers - Yes only one made it but I liked them both!!! I am cheering for Evan all the way, short or not ;)

Janette - I remember from last year, that "soccer ball head" move... I like her

Randy - I really like her, she is quirky and cute and so far fun.

Kayla - pretty, young, i enjoy watching her but am not sure yet

Philip - LOVE LOVE LOVE he is just amazing

Ade - Has potential, I enjoy watching him

Jonathan - he smiles TOO much.. i think in his routine he should have smiled less.... more emotion... altho he has a stunning smile

Asuka - I knew a Japanese girl with the same name and she taught me to say "Ah-zoo-kah" so "ah-skaw" seems wrong to me, but maybe it's Nigel's accent LOL I love that there is a Japanese woman on the show but I feel like she tries to be too sexy...

Jason - I really like him and hope to see more from him

Jeanine - I really am liking more and more each week... she seems very fun and I am excited to see more from her

Max - no strong opinions either way for him yet

Karla - I kind of thought she'd go home this week actually

Kupono-he is entertaining for sure

Ashley - She sure doesn't give up

Vitolio - I lov ehis eyes... I was disappointed with his routine this week, but not his fault
