At the beginning of this month, Philip Seymour Hoffman had two films in the can — Anton Corbijn's thriller A Man Wanted and the crime drama God's Pocket — and plans to appear in the next two Hunger Games films. He was preparing to star in a Showtime series, Happyish, and to direct Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal in Ezekiel Moss. He was primed to launch into the next phase of his already-brilliant career. "He wanted to be done with playing the sad-sack loser, the guy who's jerking off," his close friend, the playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis, says.
First, she says, she’s (Suzanne Collins) consulting on the scripts for the third and fourth film adaptations of her dystopian series that has more than 50 million copies in print. (Catching Fire, the second movie, again starring Jennifer Lawrence, will be released Nov. 22. And nearly four years after the book’s publication, the paperback of Catching Fire finally hits stores Tuesday. Mockingjay, the series finale, will be split into two films, out in 2014 and 2015). On Sept. 10, Collins releases an autobiographical picture book, Year of the Jungle, illustrated by James Proimos, about her memories of 1968, when she was 6, and her father had “to go to something called a war…in a place called Vietnam.” At a discussion Thursday night on writing about war for young readers, sponsored by her publisher, Scholastic, Collins said if kids “have no idea what propaganda is, how will you ever know when it’s being used against you?” She was joined by Walter Dean Myers, whose World War II novel, Invasion (out Oct. 1), is a prequel to Fallen Angels (about Vietnam) and Sunrise Over Fallujah (Iraq). Myers, whose brother was killed in Vietnam and whose son served in Iraq, was asked why he keeps writing novels that depict the horrors of war. He replied, “because we keep having wars.”"Read more: http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/books/2013/05/31/bookexpo-friday/2377727/c
On whether there are major changes from the book:
"No, not really, I would say that it’s a really faithful adaptation. You know, whenever you're adapting something that’s a 12- or 14-hour read down to something that has to be around two hours, there’s going to be some cuts. We definitely made some cuts. I don’t want to go into that, but we did it with Suzanne, and I would say that it’s very, very faithful. We tried to get as much as we could in there."
On the scenes he's most proud of:
"It's interesting because there’s a very small blur—I want to say it's a paragraph long in the book—but the moment in the arena when the gamemaker starts to spin the cornucopia, and I’m very proud of that. We designed a very cool sequence and created a spinning island, and that’s going to be very, very cool. So that’s kind of fun and very unique. I’ve never seen anything like it. It's cool.
"You know one of the very first things we shot that I like quite a lot is, there is sort of a goodbye before she goes into the arena with Liam that I like a lot. And it was actually—we shot it because we needed summer foliage and summer flowers and things like that. We actually shot it while we were in prep. Very first thing we sort of went out into the meadow, out in the mountains in north Georgia and shot this sequence over three or four hours or so, and I really like it. I think it’s really nice. Jennifer and Liam are really good in it. It’s very nice."
On whether those IMAX rumors are true:
"Yeah, the idea is that it’s sort of mixed formats. But yeah, that’s the idea is that the arena is in the IMAX format so that once you go in the elevator and it opens up."
On whether his actors' jovial natures ever lead to disruptions:
"You know what? I believe that the process could be fun, I just think that making movies is really tough. And it’s stressful as it is, and I think that most of us got in this business because it’s fun to make movies. I think it should stay fun. And it’s a really fun group and a very talented group. I would say only occasionally, maybe once or twice, did it get a little rowdy on set. We had to sort of clear everybody out because it is a little distracting. Or you just nicely say, 'Hey guys, why don’t we take this off the set and go somewhere else?' And I will say you go with that combo of Jen and Josh and Woody together and it can be mayhem."
On "Mockingjay":
"Nina, John, Suzanne and I have gone through the book and created the beat sheets for it. And started going through all that and at least marking our initial ideas of what the moments would be and how it all breaks down. And Danny Strong, who’s writing the first one, is working now. So yeah, we’ve actually done a fair amount of work. We're starting to think about where we could shoot it and all of that."

Lionsgate has announced that Catching Fire’s director, Francis Lawrence will also direct Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2!
Mandy's Mind:
This is weird for me. We haven't seen Francis Lawrence's work on Catching Fire yet, and although I am sure it will be awesome, it just seems odd and a bit premature no? Unless they are slipping in some scenes filming now?
I know (sorry to comapre - again - but) Twilight had a different director for each movie, with Bill Condon doing the last two. So I can understand the same director for parts one and two of Mockingjay, however, I am not sure about having the same for Catching Fire and both parts of Mockingjay. Why didn't they keep Hunger Games director on? Were there problems?
Just an interesting announcement - what do you think?

I am not sure if the ones missing have been released and I just can't see them or not... I know 10 isn't released - I applied twice under twitter and facebook as separate accounts. I am district 10 under FB....

EW.com has posted a first look at the slipcover and book cover for the upcoming Collector’s Edition of The Hunger Games!
”It’s been fun for the art director and me to revisit the mockingjay images,” Scholastic editorial director David Levithan told EW. “Amazingly, we chose the mockingjay image for the first book before we knew how crucial it would be in the trilogy, and we concepted the cover directions for Catching Fire and Mockingjay before we’d read a word of either book.”

The musician has already signed on to score Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful – which is an unexpected surprise since the duo had a well-publicized falling out during the filming of Spider-Man 2. Things were reportedly so bad during the shooting of that film that Elfman said he’d go back to waiting tables rather than go through the process again.
Apparently, the duo have buried the hatchet – which is good news, because Raimi’s Oz is a project that seems perfectly suited for Elfman’s light and bouncy style. If ever there were a project where the composer could recapture the magic of the past, it would seem to be this one.
That’s hardly the only film on his plate, however. Elfman has already signed on for Real Steel, Frankenweenie, and Dark Shadows (the last two reuniting him with frequent collaborator Tim Burton) and is in negotiations to provide the score for next year’s The Hunger Games.

I delayed, and delayed and then once I began, there was no stopping me.
I rushed through all three novels in about a week and I loved them!
They will be made into movies and I predict they will be VERY popular.... I plan to blog more about the books and the films as they get going.
At this point there is not any official casting done, but I already have my own ideas on who to cast.
First, let's hear what others say.

Leave Comments on your casting of Hunger Games Below....
•Katniss – Kaya Scodelatio
•Peeta – Hunter Parish
•Gale – Gaspard Uliel
•Effie – Kristin Chenoweth
•Haymitch – Hugh Laurie
After reading several comments and posts from other fan sites here are some suggestions and my own thoughts.
KATNISS:
Erin Sanders:

Deffo has potential. THough not how I pictured her.
Alexandra Daddario:

NGL She wasn't my first pick but she would do a damn good job... I mean she has the PERFECT look!!! I like her a lot!
Chloe Moretz:

To me she looks too young, though after Kick Ass we know she is tough!
lyndsy fonseca:

I really like her as an actress and I think she has the look but maybe a bit old? NIkita is good, she plays a tough chikita, so she could handle Katniss character.
Willa Holand:

She has serious potential also. THey all seem too old though, I mean there are three movies to film! She urkes me (well her character on the Gossip Girl does)
Kaya Scodelario:

Not bad! Not Great.
MALESE JOW:

Cute, but I prefer others.
Hailee Steinfeld:

Younger than many of the other names being tossed around which is likely better if they film all three in the next few years. She has the look and the oomf.
Saorise Ronan:

Looks too whimisical and innocent for me.
Jodelle Ferland:

I am bias because Jodelle is a local, she was in Twilight, she is a total doll and I thinks he would do a great job.. she is a bit pale, a bit innocent, but I think she would do a great job!
THOUGHTS????????????????
PEETA:
CHORD OVERSTREET

Not exactly how I pictured him but pretty close. I love him on Glee think he could be perfect! I kind of want a slightly older Peetah and Gale so I don't feel like a perv having a crush on them ha ha
Alex Pettyfer:

Again, not a bad choice, but something is slightly off from how I pictured him. He has a bit too much of a bad boy streak in his appearence I think. Better as Finnick maybe?
Hunter Parrish:

Not how I pictured him but very fitting. Or maybe as Cinna?
Lucas Till:

Cute but not quite right in my opinion.
GALE:
Drew Roy:

I have to say he is pretty perfect. Not how I imagined exactly, but pretty close. rawr
Darren Criss:

Let's just load this movie up with Glee cast ;) ha ha but I think he is stunning, though not sure "tough" enough. Obv. cut his hair ;)
Gaspard Ulliel:

Not bad, not bad at all.
Adam Gregory:

Oh very nice to look at but a bit too pretty, I see more roughness...
Eric Dill:

Not a fan so much for Gale.
Avan JOgia:

Nope, not for me.
Logan Henderson:

Better than Eric Dill but still not quite right.
PRIM:
Abagail Breslin:

She has the look but is a bit older than this photo.
RUE:
Madison Pettis:

Not how I imagined her when I read but def. could work!
Willow Smith:

No, I only see her dad when I look at her ha ha.
Elle Fanning:

Dakota's lil sister? That would be cute! But better as Prim than Rue!
HAYMITCH:
Hugh Laurie:

Not one I would have thought of myself, but a great choice! Apparently he is NOT in the running.
RD Jr

He has so many looks I think they could make him up perfectly if they wanted to.
steve buscemi:

OMG this is the kind of attitude in a guy I thought of while reading, though not the exact look.
Sean Bean:

Great Look! Almost dead on how I saw him reading! I LIKE I LIKE!
Effie:
kristin chenoweth

Again, not who I would have thought of, but a good pick? Who else?
Finnick:
Freddie Stroma:

Wow! I didn't picture him exactly this way but this way is very good indeed! Momma Likey!

Some have him as Peeta but I think he's a better Finnick.
Lot's of sites have done their own predictions:

JabberJays call their dream cast: From left to right; top to bottom: Hunter Parrish, Kaya Scodelario, Drew Roy, Julie Benz, Elle Fanning, AnnaSophia Robb, Hugo Weaving, Thomas Dekker, Justin Kirk, Kristin Chenoweth, and Unknows.)
I am tired... What about Cinna? President Snow? Foxface? Cato and Clove? Greasy Sae? Others?
COmment your ideas and I will update this with more pix and names soon!
