The Great Gatsby.... Loved it!

I took my daughter to see The Great Gatsby finally and we loved the movie.

I have to preface this with the fact that I hadn't last read the book in a quite a few years, I loved Baz's Romeo & Juliet, and the movie was full of some amazing actors I admire.

Now, having said that, I have to add the other reasons I absolutely loved the movie.

1. I saw it in 3D and I thought the cinematography was stunning. The parties were my favourite, obviously, but it just brought everything to life. I often dislike 3D too!

2. I loved the way the story unfolded, with Tobey Maguire at the start and end and the way it all came together.

3. I love Tobey and Leo together, they are best friends in real life and I can only imagine how much fun the filming would have been.

4. The humour. I loved Leo as Gatsby, the "tea party" scene was so funny.... he captured Gatsby's eccentric side very well.

5. The fashion. I loved the costumes, especially the hats. My daughter, who chopped all her hair off last September to donate to cancer, loved seeing all the short - haired girls.

6. The music. Such a juxtaposition between old jazz music from the era and modern rap and pop songs. I laughed so loud when Gatbsy was driving irratically down the street and passed the car of 'gangstas' and rap music started playing. It was funny but fitting.

7. It told the story well, like if you hadn't read the book (like my daughter) you could still follow the plot well.

Have you seen it? Thoughts?

The Great Gatsby Set Photos

P2P writes:

Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire were snapped on the set of The Great Gatsby in Australia, by E! Online! How awesome do they look? It’s amazing that just from this photo, you can see Leo embodying the character of Gatsby. Just think of how different he looks from his role in J.Edgar! Also, Carey Mulligan is looking adorable, wearing a purple flapper dress in our first snap of her as Daisy Buchanan. Some were thinking she didn’t fit the role, and she certainly isn’t the obvious choice, but I’m convinced we’ll be blown away by her performance. The 1920′s costumes look fantastic, and I’m eagerly anticipating the first official stills and clips. This epic Great Gatsby adaptation is directed by Baz Luhrmann, and has a budget of $150 million.

I can NOT WAIT!!!

Will Paul Wesley accept role of Paris in new Romeo & Juliet?

Upcoming Movies writes:

Romeo and Juliet role of Count Paris offered to Paul Wesley
"Vampire Diaries" lead actor has been offered the part of Paul Wesley opposite Douglas Booth who plays Romeo and Hailee Steinfeld as Juliet in the latest version of Shakespeare's classic, directed by Carlo Carlei.

Julian Fellowes wrote the script and is also producing alongside Amber Entertainment's Ileen Maisel and Lawrence Elman.

Production starts this September with a co-starring cast including Holly Hunter as Juliet's Nurse, Ed Westwick and Kodi Smit-McPhee as cousins of Romeo and Juliet - Tybalt and Benvolio respectively.

There have been many Romeo and Juliet adaptations, the most memorable of late was Romeo + Juliet helmed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Claire Danes, John Leguizamo and Harold Perrineau.

P2P writes:

What do you think, is he a good fit? Should he take the part? He is 29 while Hailee is only 14, but remember the time period here. That big of an age gap between a suitor and a young girl wouldn’t be abnormal.

I think it would be amazing to have Ed Westwick and Paul Wesley in a movie together - R& J makes it even better... let's see if he takes the role *hopes*

Ed Westwick Cast as Tybalt in new Romeo & Juliet

First Showing shares:

Ed Westwick is set to play Tybalt in a new adaptation of Romeo and Juliet from Italian director Carlo Carlei which already has True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld as the titular female lead in the tragic romance. For those who haven’t dealt with the Shakespeare play in school, or seen any of the various film versions, Tybalt is Lady Capulet’s nephew and the arch rival of Romeo, which does not bode well for him.

This pleases me.... I have always loved Romeo & Juliet, in fact, as a teen my friend and I went to the theatre numerous times to see the Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes version... then when it went to the cheap theatre we literally went after school every chance we got (even DURING school hours tee hee bad Mandy!)

I really am a fan of Shakespeare as a whole and I love when they remake his stuff. What I really liked about Baz Luhrmann's 1996 version was that it was modern music, sets, props, but the old language... It captivated me as a rebellious teen and stuck with me. I am an English Literature geek and majored in it at University.... Casting young, hip actors will revive the classic tale and I can't wait to see who they choose for young Romeo opposite Hailee Steinfeld as Juliet.

Ed Westwick as Tybalt will be awesome.

Baz Lurhmann's The Great Gatsby

I loved Baz's Romeo & Juliet in 1996 so this idea is exciting. Plus, the cast sound absolutely superb!!

Hollywood Reporter writes:

Isla Fisher is in negotiations to join Baz Lurhmann’s 3D adaptation of The Great Gatsby being made by Warner Bros. Fisher will join Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan.

DiCaprio is pegged to play the wealthy and mysterious Jay Gatsby, while Maguire is playing Nick Carraway, who in the novel is the narrator. Mulligan is playing Gatsby’s love, Daisy Buchanan, who is married to a wealthy chap named Tom Buchanan, whom Affleck would play if his deal makes.

Fisher will play Myrtle, a married woman having an affair with Buchanan.
