Hunger Games Filming Update

As scheduled Hunger Games filmed this week in Hildebran and starting tomorrow will be in Shelby NC.

There are hundreds of extras coming in very early for extensive hair, make-up and wardrobe. They will be filming the Reaping Scene starting tomorrow and possibly over the next couple days.

How Exciting!

As most of you know the production is under the name "Artemis" and, much like New Moon (USM) and Eclipse (TSE) will likely have signs for cast and crew labelled with this name.

Artemis Casting Facebook Page posted yesterday:
You can count on some VERY early am call times on Thursday 26th,Friday 27th, Tuesday 31st and Wednesday 1st. We may have some as early as 4:30 am. I would count on most of them being between 5 -6 am. Everyone has to go thru wardrobe, hair and make up. These are some of our most important and biggest scenes in the film.

If anyone is an extra or lives locally let us know how it goes!

Meh!

Toby Jones is Claudius Templesmith, Hunger Games Announcer

I think heis kind of perfect don't you? I reaslly thought they'd cut this role since it was just a "voice" and could have been done by Seneca or Caesar...

Thoughts?

The Hunger Games Filming begins in Hidebran NC, then Shelby NC

It all started yesterday in Hidebran, NC, where the Henry River Mill Village has been transformed into parts of The Seam, including the Mellark’s bakery.

The Hickory Daily reports:

Dingy clothes hang on a clothesline of an empty home. Windows of the houses along the road are boarded up with plywood. What appears to be an animal pen has been built against the side of one of the houses that fronts the road, and what looks like a rabbit hutch sits around back. Rusted farm equipment also is scattered around the property. … And it appears the old mill store is being transformed to become the site of the bakery for a film version of the book.

The Chief of the local Fire/Rescue tells the Hickory Daily that filming at the site is supposed to start today and finish Wednesday.

Johannafan reports:
Filming has begun in Hildebran/Henry River. Shuttle vans flying back and forth between a make shift parking lot for extras and the site. Security is very tight now. Rumors abound of people getting cease and desist letters from Lionsgate over pics being posted on the internet. I’m waiting on mine, but haven’t gotten one yet …Guess us hillbillies have gone a little crazy once the cameras started rolling.

You can see how it’s been reported at WSOCTV.com

Filming is due to start later this week in Shelby NC where photos and videos of set preparations have surfaced. The P&M Warehouse, now has a sign on it, saying District 12 and other areas surrounding it have been dressed for filming.

Lenny Kravitz as Nurse John in Precious

It was announced yesterday that Lenny Kravitz was cast as Cinna in The Hunger Games. I have mixed feelings as you can read at the end of this post but overall I think he will do well.

Director Gary Ross said that it was Lenny’s work in the movie Precious that impressed him. “I was just knocked out,” Ross said. “It was quiet and strong and understated and open-hearted: all qualities which define this character.”

So here is Lenny Kravitz playing Nurse John in Precious....

Kristen in London

Kristen was photographed in London, though I am not sure why or what she is doing there... anyone? to begin pre-production of Snow White and the Huntsman. (Thanks to the commenters and the tweeters!)

The Hunger Games Casts Cinna - Lenny Kravitz

LENNY KRAVITZ CAST AS CINNA IN LIONSGATE’S THE HUNGER GAMES

LOS ANGELES, CA, May 23, 2011- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES are pleased to announce that iconic musician and actor Lenny Kravitz (PRECIOUS) has been cast in the role of Cinna in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel.

Said director Gary Ross of the casting decision, "When I saw Lenny's work in PRECIOUS I was just knocked out. It was quiet and strong and understated and open hearted; all qualities which define this character. I'm really looking forward to this ride.”

About The Role
Cinna is Katniss Everdeen’s assigned fashion stylist for the highly ceremonial lead up to The 74th Annual Hunger Games. Though he’s a mild mannered first time stylist, the designs he creates, such as the “Girl On Fire” costume for the tributes’ live televised debut, are show-stopping. With odds being set, wagers being placed, and wealthy benefactors able to occasionally intervene in the games, a high public profile is tantamount to a huge advantage for any contestant entering the arena. The stunning and unique designs Cinna creates for Katniss define her public identity, and in an all too real way, could also contribute to her very survival.

About Lenny Kravitz
Regarded as one of the preeminent rock musicians of our time, Lenny Kravitz has transcended genre, style, race and class into a 20-year musical career, one which revels in the rich influences of '60s and '70s soul, rock and funk. From 1999 to 2002, he won four consecutive Grammy Awards, setting a record for the most wins in the “Best Male Rock Vocal Performance” category with his single “Dig In” (previously winning for “Again,” “American Woman” and “Fly Away”).
In 2009, Kravitz appeared in a supporting role in the critically-acclaimed film Precious, for which he has received a 2010 NAACP Image Awards nomination for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture.” Kravitz and the acclaimed Precious cast also received a 2010 Screen Actors Guild nod for "Best Ensemble.” In addition to his role in Precious, Kravitz has also appeared in such films as The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and Zoolander. Marking his first release of new material in three years, Lenny Kravitz will release his highly-anticipated ninth studio album, Black and White America on August 30th. www.lennykravitz.com.

About The Film
Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.
Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

THE HUNGER GAMES will be directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Collins’ best-selling novel, which has over 3 million copies in print in the United States alone, is the first in a trilogy of novels which have developed a global following.

Lionsgate will release “The Hunger Games” on March 23, 2012.

MANDY'S MIND - This is NOT what I envisioned.. I pictured a YOUNG, CUTE, (yes, also white) "FABBBULOUS" Gay man.... Not that Lenny won't do a great job, I am sure he will - but WHAT????

What do you think about this? I am still shocked... I had so many ideas for Cinna...So did fans at ReelzChannel but Lenny is not at all what I pictured.

All I am saying is they better some damn fabulous gold eyeliner up on him! He is such a manly man, I hope he can femme it up a tad for me :)

Ed Westwick Cast as Tybalt in new Romeo & Juliet

First Showing shares:

Ed Westwick is set to play Tybalt in a new adaptation of Romeo and Juliet from Italian director Carlo Carlei which already has True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld as the titular female lead in the tragic romance. For those who haven’t dealt with the Shakespeare play in school, or seen any of the various film versions, Tybalt is Lady Capulet’s nephew and the arch rival of Romeo, which does not bode well for him.

This pleases me.... I have always loved Romeo & Juliet, in fact, as a teen my friend and I went to the theatre numerous times to see the Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes version... then when it went to the cheap theatre we literally went after school every chance we got (even DURING school hours tee hee bad Mandy!)

I really am a fan of Shakespeare as a whole and I love when they remake his stuff. What I really liked about Baz Luhrmann's 1996 version was that it was modern music, sets, props, but the old language... It captivated me as a rebellious teen and stuck with me. I am an English Literature geek and majored in it at University.... Casting young, hip actors will revive the classic tale and I can't wait to see who they choose for young Romeo opposite Hailee Steinfeld as Juliet.

Ed Westwick as Tybalt will be awesome.

Video - Hunger Games Set prepared in Shelby NC

WCNC had a great storya nd video about the sets for Hunger Games in Shelby NC.

"Yeah, it's huge. It's huge," said self-proclaimed movie buff Noel Manning. "I think the fact that you've got a movie based on the book with such an incredible following is one thing. Any town that lands the opportunity to have part of the film shot in that location is pretty amazing."

Manning hosts a radio show about the movies at Gardener-Webb University where he works and says it's clear from the set that Shelby will play a big role in the movie.

We found "District 12" -- the main character's hometown -- being prepped for shooting.

"That's where the 'Hunger Games' begin. That's where the activity begins so when you see behind us something that says District 12, you realize, wow, OK, this is a major part of the film right here in Shelby," Manning said.

Brian Vaughn admits to being a movie geek and happens to work in a locksmith shop just across the street from the warehouses, serving as the "Hunger Games" set.

"I know it's a big following like 'Twilight.' People coming around here wanting to know favorite characters, who is playing them, stuff like that," Vaughn said.

Vaughn himself is hoping to see one of the lead actors -- one of his favorites.

"If I get to see Woody Harrelson, I definitely have to go get an autograph," he said.

Manning expects the town may soon swell with fans.

Hunger Games Filming to Start May 23 in Hildebran NC

Hunger Games is scheduled to begin filming Monday May 23

Hickory Daily Record has the headline: Hollywood comes to Hildebran.

HILDEBRAN --
Henry River Mill Village is being transformed from a once-forgotten, dilapidated mill town to become part of a dystopian society.

And it appears the old mill store is being transformed to become the site of the bakery for a film version of the book “The Hunger Games,” which has the working title of “Artemis.” Scenes for the movie are set to be filmed at the Hildebran site.

“The Hunger Games” is part of a trilogy of books from author Suzanne Collins that revolves around North America rebuilding after collapse. Other books in the trilogy are “Catching Fire,” and “Mockingjay.” The film is a Lionsgate production and Gary Ross is set to direct it, according to information on the Internet Movie Database.

Henry River Road, which runs through the heart of the village, was still open Thursday. State Department of Transportation officials said a part of the road would close Thursday morning for filming and remain closed until 5 p.m. May 26.

Brand Lingerfelt, chief of Icard Township Fire/Rescue, said filming at the site is supposed to start Monday and finish Wednesday. He said the road closed around noon Friday, except to emergency vehicles. But come Monday, the section of road at the village will even be closed to those, he said.

Lingerfelt said his fire department has worked out a mutual-aid agreement with Mountain View Fire Department while the road is closed.

A detour around the closed road will be 1.7 miles to get from Henry River Road to Interstate 40. The detour will go from Henry River Road to Costner Road to Old Shelby Road and back to Henry River Road, he said. Detour signs will be posted, according to state transportation officials.

Hilton said he was told that during filming, Henry River Road at the village will be covered with dirt.

The majority of the filming at the village will likely take place outside. Kristine Hilton said crews have been working to put a new front on the old general store — it has an awning and the windows have been replaced — but she said it’s her understanding that improvements aren’t being made to the inside of the structures. The word “Pastries” is now on the building.

So far, there have been no reported sightings of actors, and that might be the case throughout filming at the site. Folks who attempt to stop and linger near the site are told to keep moving. Security guards — off-duty officers with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office — are working at the location.

A light-blue, large container with the words “Rain for Rent” was at the location Thursday. Rain for Rent is an irrigation, liquid and solid handling business based in California with locations throughout the country, including North Carolina, according to its website.

Numerous local people say plans call for a structure in the village to be blown up.

Hilton wants to know when that’s slated to happen. The family has a skittish dog that runs away at loud noises. Hilton’s husband, Bruce, has been checking in with those working at the location to get some type of time frame of the expected blast so the dog can be secured.

Lingerfelt said an explosion will be simulated.

“There won’t be explosives used,” Lingerfelt said. “It’s all air pressure.”

Lingerfelt said crews have been testing, simulating an explosion for several weeks.

“If they (residents in the area) haven’t had a problem at this point, they’ll be fine,” Lingerfelt said.

Although the Hilton’s home overlooks the village, large trees obstruct the view. Kristine, who hasn’t read the trilogy of books yet, said she might be more excited if she could see more of what’s going on in the village. As it is, all of the activity is just a lot of noise.

Her sister-in-law, who lives in Ohio, has read the books and was visiting the area recently. She was so excited that part of the first movie in the trilogy will be filmed at the village that she had to snap some photos of all the activity before she left.

She has been encouraging Kristine to read the books.

“I probably will read them now just out of curiosity,” Kristine said.

Who is excited? Anyone going to check it out? Would love to myself but it is a tad far to travel during the work week ;)

If you do check it out let me know :)

'Perks of Being a Wallflower' casting and interview with Nina Dobrev

Here Nina talks about upcoming 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' script and cast. Love the Vancouver mention. It is true they shot Vampire Diaries pilot in Vancouver while Percy Jackson and New Moon were shooting. In fact, at the first 100 Monkey's show Ashley Greene's date was an Somerhalder... #truestory.

I wish TVD stayed in Vancouver!!! Ah Well... onto 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' which is written and directed by the author of the book Stephen Chbosky.

The casting is absolutely amazing. Nina Dobrev, Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Paul Rudd, and more - - - Exciting!

“The script is really, really, really amazing and the cast,” she enthused. “The fact that Stephen wrote the book, and he wrote the screenplay and he’s now directing, it’s going to be really good to see that because a lot of the time when a book is made into a film, a lot of the original fans are scared it’s going to be ruined. But when the visionary is the one who is going to see it is made the way he saw it and wants it to be seen, he’s going to play it true to the original.”

The path that got Miller to this point, in this universe, began in New Jersey, where he caught the performance bug early. He suffered with a severe stutter and finally found his voice when a teacher introduced him to opera. He fell in love with storytelling and went on to perform with the Metropolitan Opera Children’s Chorus, where he starred in Philip Glass’ White Rabbit. “Through doing that I realized that humans, with our voices and our songs are the species—the only one we know of—that tells the story of the universe. It’s sort of our responsibility.” By eight years old, Ezra Miller’s path was set. “There is no choice for me. This is my divergent reality.”

Have you read the book? Excited for the movie?
