True Blood Review

Last Nights True Blood was, as always, amazing! What I loved was that there was a lot more character development in new charcters - as well as plot development in the subplots versus just the mainplot.

Random Ramblings from Mandy's Mind:

-Franklin - love... seeing Tara bash his head in - didn't love.
-White Wolf - scary.... Alcide naked - dreamy.
-Tara biting Franklin was sick.
-Eric is being a douche - - - I want Sookie/Eric sweet-lovin' BUT....
-Previews show Alcide and Sookie sweet lovin' possibilities - equally hot
-Lafayette Lovin' first his eyemake-up was killer - he made yellow/gold shadow WORK - second - omfg his love interest is way hot - it wasn't immediate but after last night - rawrness
-I have a total girl crush on Jessica - still
-Interested in Jason Stackhouse's new love interest- engaged? WTF?
-Loved that Sam headed out to save his brother, though his jump to dog fighting seemed presumptious though obviously accurate.
-I want to fast forward to see how it all goes down with the King and now the QUeen and |Eric and the crown and the magister and poor Pam.
-we are getting closer to discovering what SOokie is :) I only know because I purposely spoiled myself (book-based) though I haven't even read the books yet, my friend owns them all and says I can borrow them - but I never have time and am so behind in my other books *sigh*


It was an action packed episode with lot's of development with almost every character which I appreciated.

True Blood at the Theatre?

I thought this meant a True Blood Movie, I was wrong but Gossip Cop reports:

Loyal fans of “True Blood” can get a bite before the Season 3 premiere.

HBO will host special midnight events for the vampire series at movie theaters across the country on June 1.

The night includes a screening of the Season 2 finale, an extended sneak preview of Season 3, and a live Q&A session with cast members and creator Alan Ball.

Tickets to the screenings are free, with VIP passes available through a variety of promotions and contests. The show’s official Facebook page gives fans a chance to win passes by “coming out” as a vampire, shapeshifter, werewolf or (ahem) “fangbanger.”

HBO explained the event as a reward to a passionate fan base that turned “True Blood” into a hit last year.

Anna Paquin’s Sookie Stackhouse, Stephen Moyer’s Bill Compton, and the rest of the Bon Temps gang return to television on June 13.

Gregory has appeared in a variety of movies and television roles since his on-screen debut in 1989, including roles in the movies Say Anything, A League of Their Own, Twister, Black Hawk Down, and the recent release The Crazies. You may also recognize him from his guest star stints on Smallville, 24, Carnivale, The Mentalist, and a host of other programs.

On True Blood Gregory will play Calvin Norris, the leader of a community of weres that we’ll encounter in season 3.

Lauren Bowles – Holly Cleary, waitress at Merlotte’s, human

True Blood season 3 just gained another waitress: Ausiello scoops that Lauren Bowles has been cast in the recurring role of Holly Cleary. This single mom takes a job as a waitress at Merlotte’s where she freaks out Arlene with her “oddly prescient observations”. She will arrive midway through season 3 and is likely to return in season 4.

Bowles has been a guest star on a lot of shows, including opposite her half-sister Julia Louis-Dreyfus on Seinfeld and The New Adventures of Old Christine, on a favorite of ours, Veronica Mars, and more recently, on Lie To Me which also had Michael Raymond-James as a guest this season.

Vincent Ward – Hollis, owner of were bar, were?

True Blood is getting a new barkeeper in season 3. No, Sam Merlotte isn’t out of a job, but we will meet Hollis, owner of a werewolf bar in Shreveport. On the Red Carpet reports that Vincent Ward has landed the role, and although the casting call stated that he was a bouncer at the bar, Vincent reveals that Hollis is in fact the owner. The casting call gave a few more details about him, saying that he’s a nice guy who knows Alcide well (though he’s suspicious of Alcide’s guest, Sookie). When Alcide is getting the crap beaten out of him, Hollis jumps to his defense. He also delivers some bad news to Alcide about his fiancee, Debbie Pelt.

Vincent Ward (sometimes credited as Vincent M. Ward) has appeared on Everybody Hates Chris, The Starter Wife, and a variety of other shows.


Lara Pulver – Claudine, Sookie’s protector, fairy

True Blood is introducing the fairies this season with one of our all-time favorite characters, Claudine. We’ve been speculating on who should get the role, and now Ausiello tells us who snagged it: British actress Lara Pulver. You may recognize her from the last season of the BBC’s Robin Hood; she played Guy of Gisborne’s scheming sister, Isabella. On True Blood, she’ll be Sookie’s fairy godmother, appearing midway through season 3 and setting up a much-anticipated storyline for season 4.

Michael Steger – Tony, prostitute, human

True Blood just got a little hotter. Ausiello is reporting that Michael Steger (90210) has been cast as Tony, the Talbot lookalike/gay prostitute Russell picks up (maybe after he finds out about this?). Steger is only slated to appear in one episode this season, but there’s a possibility he’ll recur in season 4.

What do you think, does he look like Theo Alexander? I certainly see a resemblance.

True Blood Eric has a Daddy.... Ulfrick Northman to be played by Hans Tester

True Blood Net reports:

True Blood has cast Ulfrick Northman has been cast for the flashback occurring in episode 305, “Trouble“. Actor Hans Tester, most recently seen opposite Matt Damon in The Informant!, has been cast as the senior Northman. I can see the resemblance to Alexander Skarsgard’s Eric, can’t you?

We’ll meet Eric’s father in a flashback to approximately 900 AD, before Eric is turned. The casting call describes him as Ulfrick is described as in his 40s to 50s, warm but battle scarred. He’s a Swedish Viking king who wants Eric to learn responsibility and to behave as a prince should, causing some tension in their otherwise solid father-son relationship.

Also guest starring in this episode are Melissa Rauch as Summer, a young woman who is attracted to Hoyt, and Grainger Hines as Colonel John Flood, a packmaster who Sookie & Alcide encounter.

Mandy's Mind - I agree, there is a slight resemblance, enough to make him seem legit as Eric's father... especially with period pieces for costumes.... I can't wait. They really are moving the series along faster than the books... while season 2 focussed (far too much) on plots that weren't important or long in the series.... ah well...

Dawn Olivieri joins cast of True Blood

Stars Journal reports:

Dawn Olivieri goes from being one of the heroes to one of the werewolves.

The 29-year-old actress, whose character Lydia a.k.a. ‘The Tattooed Temptress’ has just recently being killed-off in Heroes series, will join Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer in the third season of True Blood.

She will have the role of Janice Herveaux, the sister of werewolf Alcide (newcomer Joe Manganiello), that was described as a tough-as-nails biker chick who’s somewhat protective of her younger brother. She is also into horoscopes and psychics. Her first appearance will be in Season 3’s fourth episode, entitled 9 Crimes.
Besides Heroes and the upcoming True Blood, Olivieri’s previous credits include My Boys, Entourage, How I Met Your Mother and Cold Case. She is also the voice of Pepper Potts in the new Avengers animated series scheduled to air this fall on Disney XD.

Debbie Pelt will be played by Brit Morgan - True Blood S3

True Blood Net Reports:

Once Alcide was cast, a lot of True Blood fans started speculating about who would play his psycho ex, Debbie Pelt. Fairuza Balk? Alyssa Milano? Nope, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the beefed-up role of Debbie Pelt will be played by The Middleman’s Brit Morgan.

I’m guessing a dye job is in Brit’s future, but she has a tough-but-fragile quality that might just be perfect for Debbie Pelt. What do you think?

Theo Alexander to play Talbot in True Blood Season 3

Talbot, the King of Missisippi’s trophy husband, will be played by Theo Alexander. Alexander is a native of Greece who has appeared in Pushing Daisies, CSI: NY, and Chuck.

Gregg Daniel has been cast as the Reverend Daniels, Lettie Mae’s pastor to whom she turns for comfort.

Cooper Huckabee will play Joe Lee Mickens, husband of Melinda (played by J. Smith-Cameron).

Southland’s Kevin Alejandro will join True Blood as Jesus Velasquez, a recurring character for season 3 and potentially a regular in season 4.

Who is Jesus?

He’s the orderly caring for Lafayette’s mama, Ruby Jean Reynolds (played by Alfre Woodard ), in a mental health care facility who becomes involved with Lafayette. Sounds like our favorite V-dealer is in for some long-term lovin’!

Lindsay Pulsipher as Crystal in True Blood Season 3

True Blood Net reports:

Last seen in A&E’s The Beast, starring the late Patrick Swayze and Travis Fimmel, Pulsipher played Fimmel’s neighbor and love interest on the show. She’s also appeared in various television shows such as The Eleventh Hour, CSI: NY and NCIS.

Pulsipher wins the role of Crystal, described as a “mysterious and haunting beautiful young woman who shares an “electric connection” with Jason.” (EW)

Yes, Crystal is being introduced earlier than in the books, we already know. But, what do you think?

Alfre Woodard is Lafayette's Momma on True Blood

Alfre Woodard will guest star on True Blood in season 3 as Lafayette’s mom (and Tara’s aunt). That’s right, the casting call we posted last week for Ruby Jean Reynolds is indeed Lafayette’s mom. Described as “intensely religious and viciously homophobic”, Ruby Jean is clearly deranged and confined to a mental health institution.

Tony winner J. Smith-Cameron will join True Blood for the third season as Sam’s mom, Melinda Mickens. It’s a recurring role that calls for Cameron to play a dirt poor, hungover woman who lives in a shanty.

Sounds like Broadway-vet Cameron will have plenty to sink her teeth into with this role!

Grant Bowler joins cast of True Blood

Australia’s Sunday Telegraph confirms that Grant Bowler has joined the cast of True Blood for season 3. Bowler isn’t saying which character he’ll play, but he’s excited about the opportunity:

“Mate, it’s HBO and it’s the King … it’s the chance to work for an Oscar-winner [series creator Allan Ball] and alongside an Oscar-winner [Anna Paquin],” he said.

Bowler is currently co-starring on Ugly Betty as the dasterdly Connor Owens, the man who charmed even the scheming Wilhelmina. You may also recognize him as Captain Gault from Lost, which stars Carrie Preston’s hubby Michael Emerson. Bowler will be bi-coastal while filming True Blood in Los Angeles and Ugly Betty in New York, but it sounds like he’s up for the challenge.

He will play Cooter, a werewolf and leaderof a biker gang.

True Blood Net has another casting update for True Blood Season 3.

Marshall Allman joins True Blood for season three as Tommy Mickens, Sam’s little bro. Allman played L.J. Burrows on the hit series Prison Break, and was seen on Mad Men and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
