Gotham, The Flash, and more at #SDCC

Gotham-Jada.jpg

Comic-Con will world premiere 'Gothan' later this month...

Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are partnering for their first-ever power block of panels at the fan mega-conference. The cluster includes Fox’s Gotham, NBC’s new fall drama Constantine and The CW’s Arrow and its upcoming spin-off The Flash. The panels include:
– Gotham premiere: A screening of the pilot episode, followed by an appearance by the cast and producers.
– The Flash pilot screeningThe Flash pilot that shows how the fastest man on Earth (Grant Gustin) got his powers, then the “cast and producers will stop running long enough to take the stage.”
Constantine footage: John Constantine (Matt Ryan) makes his TV debut with footage from the upcoming series, then a visit from the cast and creative team.
– Arrow season 3 previewArrow returns to Comic-Con with teaser footage from the upcoming season followed by cast and producers taking fan questions.
All the panels will be on Saturday, July 26. The rest of WBTV’s Comic-Con panels, and exact times of the above panels, will be announced at a later date
UPDATED:

[PREVIOUS] Although the movie studios at San Diego Comic-Con are known for having blocks of time in which they trot out all of their upcoming programming, the television studios have typically had their programing more spread out — two panels for the same network might premiere back-to-back, but with the exception of Preview Night, TV networks don’t typically take over hours of the same panel block.
That’s all changing this year, with the first ever Warner Bros/DC “Saturday Night” event at Comic-Con.
WB announced in a press release today that on Saturday, July 26, the studio will be bringing four of its upcoming DC programs to Comic-Con for screenings and cast appearances, from series Gotham, The FlashConstantine, and Arrow.
Attendees will be treated to the world premiere of Gotham, which stars Ben McKenzie (The O.C.Southland) as Detective Jim Gordon, and follows Gordon and other popular Batman characters (including Bruce Wayne, The Penguin, Catwoman, and The Riddler) through their journey to becoming the DC characters we know today.
The Flash pilot will also be screened in its entirety, and Constantine fans will be treated to “exclusive footage”. WB and DC haven’t forgotten about their current hit series, Arrow, as the CW series will also be present with “never before seen teaser footage from the upcoming third season”.  For each of the panels, it also mentions that cast and crew will be making an appearance on stage as well.
There’s no word yet on panel times yet.

Reign Renewed!

Reign Renewed is the best news I have heard!!!

Also renewed: Arrow, Originals, Vampire Diaries and Supernatural of course.
Explained CW president Mark Pedowitz: “This season we’ve had great success with our new hit series The Originals paired with Supernatural, giving us our best Tuesday nights in years.  The Vampire Diaries is #2 in its time period in the young adult demos, and with Arrow continuing to gain among young men, and Reign growing its time period, we now have strong nights on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I’m very pleased to announce early pickups for all five series, and let our fans know they’ll have more great drama to look forward to next season.”

Britt Robertson in Under the Dome

With all my excitement over Austin Butler in The Carrie Diaries, I am more excited that Britt Robertson (Fellow Life Unexpected castmate, and Secret Circle cast mate) will be in Under the Dome.

Deadline reports:

Britt Robertson has been cast in a drama series for the CW sister network CBS. Robertson has joined Under The Dome, CBS’ 13-episode summer series from Steven Spielberg and Stephen King. Based on King’s bestselling novel, Under The Dome is set in Chester’s Mill, a small New England town suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. The town’s inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from and if and when it will go away. Robertson will play Angie, an attractive young waitress and aspiring nurse who’s always dreamed of escaping the town of Chester’s Mill.

It seems the CW loves her (LUX, Secret Circle) so surely she will continue with a great career, I just hope the shows last longer... I was so upset over the cancellation of both LUX and TSC (both Vancouver productions too by the way!)

Has anyone read Stephen King's novel that this show is based on?

My First Comic-Con - Plans for Wednesday & Thursday

Wednesday and Thursday Schedule came out and as a SDCC virgin, I am super psyched and a bit overwhelmed.

Wednesday Night I want to go to the screenings of some CW/WB Pilots:

-666 Park Ave
-Arrow
-The Following
-Revolution
-Cult

Then Thursday is crazy busy. The Breaking Dawn Part 2 panel doesn`t start until later in the day, so for those of you (us?) camping or waiting, it will be a long one.

I have heard rumours of things t keep line-waiters entertained, and from past practice I am sure there will be things going on.

I am learning that SDCC is all about prioritizing and having back up plans. (Thanks T.J. for the advice!)

Since I can't clone myself in the next week here, I have to make sacrifices and be happy I get to do anything....

Here are my goals Thursday:

-Breaking Dawn Part 2
-Dexter
-Disney (Oz, Frankenweenie, Wreck It) - Mainly for OZ

Then if possible / backups:

-Nikita (same time as Dexter, which is my preference, though I'd die to meet Shane West)
-Teen Wolf (same time as Disney, but only care about part of Disney's panel so may opt for Teen Wold instead)
-Expendables 2 (for my hubby)

There are tons of other things I am interested in but I am not sure how much time between and time in lines I will need or have....

The Secret Circle at SDCC

I am quite excited about this show because it films in Vancouver and has kept Gale Harold (Hellcats) and Brit RObertson (Life Unexpected) in my city for filming. I am a huge fan of both, but especially Gale Harold from Queer as Folk days - Hello Brian Kinney!

Anyways, here is some info on the show:

Cinema Blend writes:

The Secret Circle
Premieres Fall 2011 on The CW

Based on L. J. Smith’s novels, this new CW drama follows a teen girl named Cassie (Britt Robertson) who goes to live with her grandmother after her mother dies in a mysterious fire. She’s quickly drawn in by a group of witches who believe she’s meant to be a part of their circle. And so begins your typical teen drama with a magical twist. Dangers lurk not far in the distance as these kids begin to dabble in powers that might have them in over their heads very soon.

My guess is that The Vampire Diaries fans are going to be on board with this one. The pilot was a little campy at parts, but it does offer a similar kind of glamorous danger to some of the other supernatural-themed TV dramas out there. Fans of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles may recognize Thomas Dekker, playing one of the teens that befriends Cassie.

I don't knwo about you but this sounds pretty awesome - we will see..

Kevin Williamson had plenty to say about the new show:

“This is not as a violent show,” says Williamson. “VAMPIRE DIARIES as emotionally epic it is with its love story, there’s something very masculine about it with the vampires, and werewolves. THE SECRET CIRCLE, this is witchcraft – it’s not so in your face violent. As you saw from the pilot. He drowned the man, just by describing it. It’s just a different type of horror and menace. And that’s the challenge of it – you can’t take a knife and stab somebody.”

That said, Williamson is trying his best to make THE SECRET CIRCLE very edgy and scary too.More...

“I’m the horror movie guy,” says Williamson. “I like scsary.I like the occult. I like ROSEMARY’S BABY. I like the devil worship. I like the voodoo. I like the stuff that goes bats**t crazy. The challenge is how to imbue that with witchcraft to make it scary. Who’s evil and who is not? How evil can you go?”

In terms of developing the series, many changes had to be made according to Williamson, but it helps when you have great source material like the worlds Smith creates.

“These mythology shows are so hard to sort of develop and create, but it’s also what makes it challenging and exicting,” says Williamson. “I really like mythologies. I love building a world from scratch. I have help. Which is so nice because the source material gives us a lot.”

The series will also explore three generations of witches, which will likely open up the CW demographic a bit.

“There’s this young circle, this brand new circle, and you have sort of the next level which are the parents and then you have the grandmother who is in the elder circle,” says Williamson. “I was fascinated by the idea of which powers the have, what they can do with them and how they can do it. And some of the elders, in some sense, don’t believe there is a place for witches anymore. Others feel differently.”As for whether THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and THE SECRET CIRCLE exists in the same universe (think about the crossovers), Williamson says he’s adhering to the book worlds of both – one in which they don’t exist in each others universes.

“We’re playing these two more as companion pieces,” says Williamson. “They’re two separate worlds. Chance Harbor doesn’t exist in the same world as Mystic Falls.”

So does this mean no cross-over shows? BoO!

Expect to see the show air Thursdays at 9pm, following The Vampire Diaries (who filmed their pilot in Vancouver, then moved to ATL for production) I hope The Secret Circle stays in Vancouver.

Buffy is Back - well not really, but Ringer stars Sarah Michelle Geller

Sarah Michelle Geller was on the 'Ringer' panel at SDCC today making me sob that I am in bed with stitches and not at Comic-Con 2011....

Hollywood.com writes:
Gellar will innovate her own system of witness protection after watching a murder take place: she happens to have an affluent twin sister into whose lifestyle Gellar's character will attempt (against unexpected odds) to assimilate. The sneak peek for the CW thriller hit Comic-Con this Thursday. Stars like Gellar, Fantastic Four's Ioan Gruffudd, LOST's Nestor Carbonell and Life Unexpected's Kristoffer Polaha as well as Executive Producer Pam Veasey and Co-Executive Producers Nicole Snydar and Eric Charmelo were on hand to take us through the new show

Some quotes from the panel:

"If I dressed up as Buffy for Comic Con, you guys would tell me I was a lame version of Buffy. She doesn't look real. I want to dress up as a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills." -Sarah Michelle Gellar (via ScreenRant)

"I'm not trying to re-create Buffy and I'm not trying to top it. I'm trying to do something that the fans, who have been so good to me, will love...I'm a television watcher and this is the kind of show that I would watch." -Sarah Michelle Gellar (via The Hollywood Reporter)

"Michelle Trachtenberg is angling for a guest spot, I think. She's been hanging around an awful lot." -Sarah Michelle Gellar (via E!)

Season 2 is currently filming locally.

Season 1 was amazing, you should deffo watch it!!

Brittany Robertson plays LUX a 15 year old who has been shuffled from bad foster home to worse foster home her whole life. Her parents, Cate (Shiri Appleby), who gave her up for adoption while still in highschool and Baze (Kristoffer Polaha), who never knew about the pregnancy, end up getting custody of LUX when she tries filing for emancipation.

Season 1 explores their relationships and the trauma's of parenthood and being a teenager.

While Cate is engaged to Ryan (Kerr Smith), her radio co-shot, Baze runs a bar and drinks and parties with his best friends, one (Math) who has been in love with Cate since they were in highschool (Austin Basis).

Kerr Smith at Fireworks in Vancouver

So I went to the fireworks in Vancouver Saturday with my friend Adrian and who sits down beside us? Kerr Smith and Austin Basis from locally filmed Life Unexpected.

It was so funny, I saw them stop to decide on sitting and then they started moving the sand around (it had just rained briefly) and setting up. As Kerr turned around I was in shock, it was Kerr Smith! Jack from Dawson's Creek and Ryan from Life Unexpected.

They chatted with us briefly, casually about the rain and setting up and what not.

After a few minutes of casual chit chat I felt like it would be weird to go on acting like I didn't know who they were, so I said "hey, I am a huge fan can I get a picture with you and Austin?"

They were super friendly and seemed quite happy I knew who they were and watched the show. Austin's girlfriend took the photos and we chatted about the show, Vancouver, local resturants, etc.

They were so sweet and down-to-earth.

Later they shared their cheese - it was hilarious they had the portable cheeses and Kerr held them out like a watch sales man, what kind do you want? ha ha!

We all enjoyed the fireworks and Kerr did a video/podcast of the fireworks and interviewed me giving me some Season 2 Life Unexpected "scoops"

He asked if I was Team Baze or Team Ryan - I hesitated (I am team baze, but he plays Ryan) he nudged me repeatedly so I said (unconvincingly I am sure) "Ryan"

ha ha "See there are Ryan fans out there" ha ha he also said that Season 2 things get stirred up and some Team Baze may not be Team Baze - time will tell.... makes me excited to see season 2 which is filming now. Also talked about some of the sets and filming locally.

After good laughs I asked him to take a pic with a "Hi Amy!" sigh (as per my friend Amy's request) I didn't have paper but I did have sticky notes (I always do in my purse, don't ask ha ha) so I snapped some photos of that and even did a video, though it was dark... I will still post it on youtube and if/when he posts his video I will link it for you to see.

Anyways - Kerr is super sweet - and Austin and his girlfriend were super friendly - - - I enjoyed meeting the 3 of them at the fireworks Saturday night.

Check out Life Unexpected on the CW - Season 2 filming now so you have time to catch up on Season 1.

Colin Egglesfield leaving Melrose - No Auggie Stay.Please.

Man, life is rough.

One day you're happy as a clam, working as a castmember on a prime-time network drama, and the next day someone's feeding you a line about changes in your show's "tone" and shuffling you off to Buffalo.

That's what just happened to departing Melrose Place star Colin Egglesfield, who sums up his rollercoaster Thursday this way: "I've had better days, to be quite honest."

We just spoke to Colin exclusively to find out why he's being pushed out of the show, not to mention where Auggie fits into the show's big murder mystery, and despite what you may have theorized, Auggie's not getting killed off, and despite what you may have been told, this exit was not planned from the beginning: "[They said it] was a network decision and obviously the ratings aren't what they need or want them to be, so they're going to try things to shake things up."

So what really happened today, and what's going to happen next on Melrose Place? Here's what we learned from Colin:

You were initially hired to be an ongoing series regular on Melrose Place, right?
Yes, definitely, I was slated to be in 10 of the 13 first episodes, but I had a multiyear contract.

What happened to change that? How did you learn they weren't going forward with you and your character?
I got the call this morning from our producers, Todd [Slavkin] and Darren [Swimmer]. They were really saddened, and you could tell it was difficult for them to break this news to me. They said it was a network decision, and they said the network thought Auggie was a little too dark, with his alcoholism. They felt like in the landscape of Melrose they wanted to change the tone of the show. So that's the explanation that they gave me.

And this morning was the first you'd heard of it?
They said that it wasn't anything against me or my talent or anything. There was never any discussion that they weren't sure what they were going to do with me or my character. And it wasn't like I was getting in fights with crew members or punching people out.

It's an odd decision, because we did just did a poll yesterday about favorite Melrose Place characters that aren't Ella, and Auggie was the winner.
That's the thing—I don't know. It's kind of crazy. It's like, How?! Why?! I'm not spending too much time thinking about it, because it'll just drive you crazy, if you try to figure something out that you're never going to figure out. I'm just focusing on [other stuff]. I've already got a bunch of auditions lined up.

Was your agent or manager told anything else or anything different about what happened?
No, that's what they were told as well: that it was a network decision and obviously the ratings aren't what they need or want them to be, so they're going to try things to shake things up, but why they chose this, I don't know.

Storywise, there's the murder mystery, although I could have sworn we already absolved Auggie of killing Sydney Andrews. Is this a twist thing? Are you the killer of Sydney Andrews who must be punished?
The way in which I'm leaving the show, I'm not being killed off, I'm just leaving. It keeps the door open for, potentially, my character to come back, but who knows?

Based on what we've seen so far, Auggie's feelings for Riley and his mentorship of Violet are his main storylines—do those continue or does Auggie turn in another direction?
Auggie's relationship with Riley (Jessica Lucas) comes to a head next week. She feels like hanging out with me puts too much pressure on her relationship with Jonah (Michael Rady), so that makes me upset. And then something happens at work where I get in this fight with Marchello, the head chef, my boss. So, a relationship with a girl that I am in love with isn't working out, and my career is not working out, and the only other thing Auggie has is his alcohol, so we see Auggie face the decision of whether or not to hit the bottle again. And, of course, Violet (Ashlee Simpson-Wentz) is in the mix. She always seems to creep up, you know, in all the different weird places—and she does that here, too. So there's a lot of really cool stuff coming up.

Are you done with the show for now, or are you still in the middle of production?
I'm shooting one more episode, and we start shooting that on Monday.

Do you have anything you want to say as a farewell to the fans and the people you've worked with?
Todd and Darren are great, I love those guys and they've always been straightforward and straight shooters and just great people to work with. I respect the decision that they had to make creatively to do what they need to do, I'm just frustrated that I'm not going to be a part of the show, because it was such a great job and a fun place to go to work every day. I'm disappointed to be leaving because I became really good friends with not only the cast of Melrose Place but many of the crew as well, so that's sad, to not be able to go see them at work. But hey, I'm still friends with them, and I'd just like to say to everyone out there who's been watching and supporting, thanks from the bottom of my heart, because this is something that I love to do.

So, what do you think, kiddos? Did the network slaughter the right sacrificial lamb in their attempt to appease the TV gods and redeem Melrose Place? Could they have done something different or better with Colin's character? Are you feeling better or worse about M.P. right now? Hit the comments below!

Um - OK - so Auggie could have had a storyline change.... there's a million things they could have done, at least he isn't being killed.... he CAN return... I'd have taken off almost anyone else before him - - - seriously - - he's HOT!
