SYTYCD Canada Finale Performance

Tonight was the final performance show of the season.

Lindsey & Matt
Hip-Hop - ShoTyme
"Like That" - Memphis Bleek

This was energetic, hard hitting and fun. I really enjoyed watching it and thought it was a great start to the show.

Jordan & Christian
Contemporary - Stacey Tookey
"All in Love is Fair" - Stevie Wonder

This was a powerful piece about a chance encounter between past lovers who relive a moment. I thought it was moving and pretty. There was a near-miss on a lift that scared me but they recovered well.

Melissa & Shane
Salsa - Gustavo Vargas
"Salsa y Sabor" - Tito Puente

This had some serious lifts, twists, spins and tricks. BOTH of them did some crazy flips and it ended with an amazing one-legged lift by Shane pulling Melissa over him, amazing!

Girls Routine

Mia Michaels
"What About Us" - ATB

This was, hands down, my most favourite routine of the season, and maybe ever. It was absolutely crazy-good. I will post it for everyone to see because it truly was THAT awesome!

Guys Routine
Melissa Williams
"We Will Rock You" - Queen

After the girl's routine this simply wasn't up to par. It was fun, the guys did lifts and tricks and moved well, but the girl's was just that much better! Christian really stood out fo rme in this routine.

SOLOS

Shane"Fancy Footwork" - Choremo

Another amazing solo from Shane. I really find him the strongest of the male dancers.

Melissa"Commander" - Kelly Rowland

She was amazing, so much power and energy, when she dances she commands attention. She has been consistently great this whole season and I will not be surprised if she wins.

Lindsey"Beautiful" - Me'Shell Ndegeocello

Easily the most growth this season. Her solo showed such maturity and committment, I had goosebumps watching her dance.

Matt"Ain't No Sunshine" - Bill Mathers

For me the most improved male dancer. I am surprised he is still around over some of the other dancers, but he is holdinghis own and his solo was very good.

Christian"Beautiful People" - Chris Brown

I often forget he is ballroom because he really does so well in every genre thrown at him. I appreciated his upbeat solo that was ballroom but very fluid and fun.

Jordan"This Woman's Work" - Greg Laswell

Jordan was my pick to win since auditions. I adore her and I will stick to my decision for her to win, her solo was amazing, her dancing all season has been consistently great.

POWER RANKINGS

This is tough. I am ultimately voicing my predictions for the win....

Since day ONE I have been a Jordan fan, and even though Melissa has quickly crept up on (and at times even surpassed) Jordan, I am going to stick with Jordan to win. Melissa a close second (or if I am wrong, Melissa will win and Jordan a close second) I guess there are two ways to do this - MY OPINION and what I THINK CANADA'S OPINION WILL BE....

Mandy's Thoughts:
1 - Jordan
2 - Melissa
3 - Lindsey
4 - Shane
5 - Christian
6 - Matt

Prediction based on Canada's Votes:1 - Melissa
2 - Jordan
3 - Christian
4 - Matt
5 - Lindsey
6 - Shane

WHY ARE THEY SO DIFFERENT?
Because, I think Canada, like USA SYTYCD, sometimes gets it wrong, or some dancers simply have more fan support for whatever reason. This is why the "winner" is called "favourite dancer" not "best dancer" at the end.

We often see the same fantastic dancers keep getting bottom 3, while some less talented dancers stick around week after week. Every season of every SYTYCD it happens. Of course, we all have different opinions on what we like, but that is how it goes.

For example, I think Joey should be in the finale, within Top 3 to be honest, but he is gone. I also thought Denitsa stuck around way too long. I could go on, but I won't.

For the Comments....
Give me your Power Rankings, Also comment on any past results, who should have gone sooner or stayed longer?

SYTYCD Canada Top 10 Performance

Tonight's judges were Jean-Marc, Tre Armstrong, Stacey Tookey and Mary Murphy.

Tonight the dancer's had new partner's as well as solo's to perform as we start voting for individual's not couples this week.I think this will really show us who Canada likes and not mask poor dancers with partner's who are favourites.

First of all I will do the Ranking of the Coupled Dances:
1. Jordan & Christian
Jazz - Sean Cheesman
"Skin" Rihanna

*CTV Has more photos that are amazing*
I know not everyone will agree with me but this routine was sexy and amazing. The start with one on each side of the wall yet still in sync, the spins and back flips and all that skin. It was sexy and my favourite of the night, but I think Canada may place them lower than I do.

2. Shane & Melissa
Hip Hop - Luther Brown
"The Time" - Black Eyed Peas

I really loved this routine also, but hip hop sometimes scores lower with Canada's votes. Melissa gotr her 6th standing ovation from the judges and she really worked this routine hard.

3. Lindsey & Adam
Contemporary - Blake McGrath
"Remember When it Rained" - Josh Groban

This was an amazing routine. It was my favourite when it came on but after the whole episode I felt stronger about the Hip Hop and Jazz routines, though I could be wrong. Honestly, all three of these routines were just absolutely fantastic!

4. Yulia & Matt
Contemporary - Sabrina Matthews
"My Love' - Sia

I love this song and was impressed with Yulia despite her uncomfortableness with the routine. The fact is, to go further she needs to be able to step outside her genre, and she realyy doesn't do that well. Tonight was good, but I think others were better.

5. Denitsa & Francois
Mambo - Gustavo Vergas
"Bemba Colora" - Ceilia Cruz

There were some nice moments and they are both ballroom so it was well done, but it was the first dance of the night, and not that memorable. Denitsa's scarf didn't come out and she almost dropped the one Francois threw to her to use. There was great partnering but overall it was just not as memorable or entertaining as the others.

Now for Solo's, I don't actually like the dancers in this order at all, but based JUST on what I saw tonight here are my thoughts...

Men:

1. Shane

2. Francois

3. Adam

4. Christian

5. Matt

Women:

1. Melissa

2. Lindsey

3. Jordan

4. Denitsa

5. Yulia

PLEASE comment with your toughts, I could be way off, but based on tonight's show this is how I feel. I do not know how the eliminations will go tomorrow, but I will post results tomorrow

SYTYCD Canada Top 12 Performance Show

Tonight's Top 12 was amazing! I was a bit disappointed last week, but this week did not let me down!

Judges: Jean-Marc, Tre, Blake, Luther, Mary

Here is a summary of the evening's routines along with Power Rankings as I posted on PURESYTYCD.com

Christian & Lindsey
Salsa - Claudia Primeau & Francis LeFreniere
"Aquanile" - Hector Lavoe

The idea of this routine was that Lindsey was an exotic bird. They had awesome outfits and a cage. I love both dancers, but I think because this dance was first, a little different and not overly memorable, it may put them in risk this week.

Adam & Melissa
Contemporary - Sabrina Matthews
"Set Fire to the Rain' - Adele

The theme to this was a couple who ruin each other being together. It was supposed to be a controlled chaos with wild movements and I think they did absolutely wqonderfully. I had goosebumps the entire routine and could NOT take my eyes off Melissa. Her legs were so strong, her movements so fierce! Blake even went so far as to say he loved Melanie, who just won USA, but that Melissa would tear her apart! It was Melissa's 5th consecutive standing ovation from the judges and the audience!

Matt & Denitsa
Hip Hip - Steve Bolton
"C'mon Catch 'em by Surprise" - Diplo & Tiesto (ft Busta Rhymes)

I have to say I was impressed with this routine despite judges criticism. I do feel it is probably too little, too late, but we will see what the voters decide. Looking at the overall season I feel these two may be at risk of going home, but tonight's number was pretty great! They were HARD hitting and really in it!

Yulia & Shane
Jive - Danny Arbour
"Thunder on the Mountain" - Wanda Jackson (Ft Jack White)

It was a good effort, strong choreography and solid performance, though I am not sure it will be memorable or strong enough to keep them out of the bottom three, especially given the past results with voters and these dancers. It is odd that they did not mention Carlena's name. They showed Yulia danced with JP last week and then showed Shane danced his solo last week but no mention or Carlena... then, Danny said Shane had to carry "his partner" last week, but this week Yulia will have to carry him. It was very odd to me, but maybe I am over thinking it? Anyhow, the dance was just meh for me overall.

Geisha & Joey
Afro-Jazz - Sean Cheesman
"Jungle" - Highlight Tribe

I love Sean Cheesman's routines, so forgive me if I rave about it a bit. This dance was so physical and hard-hitting and amazing! I thought they looked like warriors in the jungle! Sean's style is so unique and entertaining, I always love when a couple pulls "Afro-Jazz." I have been a huge fan of Joey's from the start (He and Jordan) but Geisha did well this week. I think the reason Joey found himself in the bottom last week was because Geisha is a weaker dancer. But I think they will be safe this week, unless Canada is crazy!

Jordan & Francois
Contemporary - Sabrina Matthews
"Let Go' - Frou Frou

This piece was dedicated to Sabrina Matthews newlywed husband and was about taking a leap of faith in love and life. It was beautifully choreographed and even more beautifully danced by Jordan and Francois. I am not a Francois fan, but Jordan has been my favourite since the start.

Top 12 Group RoutineHip Hop - ShoTyme
"I can Transform Ya" - Chris Brown (ft Lil Wayne)

I really loved this routine. It was impressive to see a group of 12 NON-HIP HOP DANCERS perform such a hard hitting, fast, fun routine.

Power Rankings

Top 3
1 - Adam & Melissa
2 - Jordan & Francois
3 - Geisha & Joey

Bottom 3
4 - Christian & Lindsey
5 - Matt & Denitsa
6 - Yulia & Shane

I have to say I had 2 & 3 switched originally. Also, I had 4 & 6 switched originally, but changed them up because of overall performances.

I really think it is time for Yulia or Denitsa to go but based on tonight only I'd send Yulia and probably Shane would go also.

It is getting harder to say good-bye.

Tomorrow we find out our TOP 10 as well as see a group "mobster" routine choreographed by Jean Marc Genereux and France Mousseau.

What did you think of tonight's show? Do you agree or disagree with my Power Rankings? Leave comments below!

Top 22 SYTYCD Canada Performance Show

Tonight was the first performance show for SYTYCD Canada Season 3. I guest blog over at PURE SYTYCD and have put my post under the cut...

More... It’s been a while since I did power rankings so bare with me and PLEASE comment below if you agree, disagree, or have something more to say.

We are just getting to know the dancers so I find it even more challenging. Also, I am not a dancing expert so mostly I judge on what I find entertaining and make me want to pick up the phone and vote.

Top 3
1. Hanni & Tara-Jean- Jazz – Nico & Wynn
That’s how Strong my Love is – Otis Redding
1877 977 4611

I am a MASSIVE Nico fan and also TaraJean, so this was just a favourite before it started! It was so cute, TJ was like a ball of sunshine in her yellow dress and beaming smile. It was the only routine of the night to give me chills and therefore gets my #1 ranking… the playful chase and blanket romp was awesome… They saved the best for last.

2. Bree & Edgar – Hip Hop – Jaeblaze
O.M.G – Usher
1877 977 4610

Canada is known for it’s hot routines. This routine was just that. Grinding and thursting – wow! It seemed a bit spastic at times, maybe because it was so fast, but I really enjoyed it a lot. They rocked it! Mary even put Bree on the Hot Tamale Train!

3. Danielle & Sebastian – Bollywood – Longinus Fernandes
Tera Hi Jalwa – Sajid – Wajid (Wanted Cast)
1877 977 4605

Bollywood was good for Sebastian and Danielle also did well… very entertaining. The skirt change could have gone very wrong but it, like the last jump, went without a hitch. Longinus Fernandes is amazing and he is the choreographer from Slumdog Millionaire. I am a HUGE Sebastian Fan, he reminds me of Mark from USA SYTYCD and I love his quirkiness.

Middle 5

4. Jera & Kirsten – Contemporary – Mandy Moore
“Fireflies” by Ron Pope
1877 977 4602

Beautiful. I kept moving this into #3 then #4. Mandy’s a great choreographer. Her feet bothered me at times, I am not sure why, maybe it is the ballet point? After lot’s of bumps and falls in rehearsal they really mastered it. I have no idea what Tre was talking about “watching Twilight on stage” but I enjoyed the routine. This would have been #3 except for her feet annoying me.

5. Janick & Shavar – Afro-Jazz – Sean Cheesman
Dances with wood / baba – Mickey Hard, Zakir Hussain, Sikiru Adepoju & Giovanni Hidalgo
1877 977 4608

I personally love Sean Cheesman’s Afro-Jazz most of the time. They had the jumps and moves and the outfits just complimented their moves. The drop spin was awesome as were the air headstand flip thing. I think people should vote for this, it was entertaining and well done. I especially loved the all at the end.

6. Jonathan & Kloe – Hip Hop – Sho-Tyme
X Gon’ Give it to Ya – DMX
1877 977 4606

He was really good, she wasn’t bad… DMX is hard and their moves needed to be harder. That being said, it was entertaining and I think people may vote for them. She kept smiling which looked really strange given the moves… but he got his face down.

7. Yonni & Claudia – Salsa – Tony & Meredith
Calabria 2008 ft Natasja – Enur
1 877 977 4601

White outfit was hot, her blue frills were sexy, great personality, perfect genre for them. Slight fall which looked to be his fault, though the judges did not mention it. She was more in her element than he. Still nice chemistry and a fun routine. I think I am ranking this a bit low, they were so amazing… gah! Too hard to choose this first week.

8. Denys & Amanda – Tango – Tony & Meredith
Grand Guiiignol – Bajofondo
1877 977 4603

Her legs shook a lot and looked awkward at times, but this isn’t her genre. Luckily she had Denys in his genre to lead her and lead her he did. I think tango is a tough first week draw. It felt awkward at times and it wasn’t a favourite of the night at all. Side note – poor girl had bruises all up and down her legs. Mary is hilarious throwing her papers all over the place. To be honest I fast forwarded through a lot of the judges, they didn’t see to be offering a critique but instead sugar coating and spewing random stuff.

Bottom 3

9. Nathalie & Mackenzie – Viennese Waltz – Pierre Allaire
For the Nights I can’t Remember – Hedley
1877 977 4609

Beautiful, Mackenzie is all kinds of sexy. The flip/ lift was fabulous and it felt like a more modern version of the waltz. Technically, I can’t comment, but I enjoyed watching. They did have great chemistry and handled a tough dance well together.

10. Charlene & Jeff – Jive – Danny Arbour
Celebrity Status (Shake Shake) – Marianas Trench
1877 977 4604
Rough spin, but nice lift. Very fun routine. I didn’t like the judges all saying they were “cute” how annoying. It was a it slow for a jive and had awkward moments whichis why I am putting it in the bottom 3

11. Jesse & Julia – New Disco – Melissa Williams
Fame – Lady Gaga
1877 977 4607

Lot’s of fog, props, not sure it enhanced dancing or distracted… incredible outfit, she looked almost nude. Powerful movements, I didn’t see chemistry like some other couples. I could be terribly wrong, it has been a while since I did power rankings but I just don’t think this one will do as well.

Thoughts?

Am I way off?
