Twilight Saga Eclipse Trailer Rumors...

This evening Twitter was all a buzz about a possible pre-screening for Eclipse that has already happened....

Test Screenings are generally done if they are not sure what to do about a certain plot, problem, character, ending... and with Twilight being based on the books, pretty much that is all sorted out and the "kinks" would mostly be adaptation, special FX and time constraints...not how to improve the movie so it does well.

Let's all be logical here.

Does Twilight Saga Eclipse need any kind of promotion to do well?
-No

Will fans make Eclipse the #1 movie of the summer, if not year?
-Yes

So do we think they are having private screenings for fans and the public in order to get opinions and improve the film or help choose how to make it a good movie?
-No

So my opinion is that any rumours of public screenings is false. Of course, people who are working on the film have seen footage. I mean, there's been footage to view since the evening of August 17, 2009. But, this movie will do amazingly well regardless and they are so secretive about it... if they can't release a two minute trailer, it is unlikely they'd have a "clean" enough full version to produce an entire film for public screening....

That's what's on my mind.

@larry411 posted a great blog on the rumours surrounding the "Eclipse Trailer" where he differentiates between:

  • "Clips" (bits of film footage) are available as soon as the first scenes are shot.
  • "Teaser trailers" are usually longer than clips but shorter than official theatrical trailers.
  • "Theatrical trailers" are the longest ones. These are the extended trailers you see in theaters tacked onto feature films, posted on the Internet, and shown on television in 30-second chunks.

He talks about if an Eclipse trailer may exsist and to waht extent. His opinions are based on his experience with clips and trailers as a film journalist and seem quite accurate to me.

He wonderfully states that"the existence of such a trailer depends on your definition of "exists." Is there a trailer that is complete, has been approved by Summit, and is about to show up somewhere officially? I can't say, and director David Slade recently said that he doesn't know. Is there a trailer which has been completed? Probably. Remember what I said about test trailers. There could have been multiple trailers produced over the past few months for the PTB [Powers That Be] to approve. So, to answer the question, does an Eclipse trailer exist? Probably. Has it been seen? Probably. Has it been seen publicly? Not that I'm aware. Is it about to be officially released? I can't say and the director doesn't know. So that's where it stands."

Excellent Post, and not just because it's the same opinion as me ;)
