Twilight Examiner posted this:
Summit Entertainment (the film studio responsible for the Twilight saga films and the critically-acclaimed The Hurt Locker), has just issued an official statement with its position on the litigation between itself, the studio, and Beckett Media, a company who has been producing unauthorized magazines related to the Twilight series.
The allegations contained in the original complaint indicated that Beckett had been provided with a cease and desist letter, requiring the cessation of use for Summit Entertainment's publicity photos from the Twilight series films, but that they had refused to comply with the demands.
Here's Summit's official statement on the matter:
Summit Entertainment acted to protect its rights in a situation which found Beckett Media using copyrighted and trademarked images and materials relating to the Twilight films for Beckett's financial gain without an agreement in place with Summit to legally license the right to produce materials based on its film franchise. Beckett's sale of stand alone magazines under the name Twilight, and wholesale use of Summit's copyrighted material in a commercial product, went well beyond the intended purpose of Summit's publicity site. We applaud the court for its judgment in this matter.
Mandy's Mind - This makes sense, if you are stealing their materials, however, I don't think they should have the right to anything using the world "Twilight" as it is a time of day, nor anything with an "apple" or "fangs" or whatnot.... Summit is a big company, and they can easily take on the little guys... usually they don't have to, they threaten them and the little guys crumble in fear... however, I can't see how anyone could be sued for having an appleon their page that talks about vampires... do they REALLY own the rights to that? meh!
It reminds me of the pizza place in Vancouver who has always had the Olympic rings as it's logo, and with the Olympics coming was forced into a law suit to try and have it removed... really?
Oh the big wigs of the world need to spend a day as a small business owner... I think THEN the world would be a better place, we could all understand each other a little bit more.
