It looks likely that best-actor Oscar-winner Adrien Brody, Twilight star (and former Montrealer) Rachelle Lefevre and French screen icon Isabelle Adjani will be coming to Montreal to shoot a pricey Canadian-French co-production. Producer Brigitte Janson said all three actors have agreed to star in VK, a period piece that has a budget of between $25 million and $32 million. The producer is in final negotiations with the three movie stars.
The film, to be directed by seasoned Quebec director of photography Pierre Gill, is based on the true story of Baron Von Kempelen, a Hungarian engineer who invented a machine to play chess, called The Turk, in the late 18th century. The Baron is played by Brody. Lefevre will play his wife Annette and Adjani will portray the Russian Queen.
