Roman Polanski and Breaking Dawn?

Twilight Examiner Amanda Bell posts:
Roman Polanski has certainly been a newsworthy name of late. Putting aside the criminal tension surrounding him, his film The Ghost Writer has recently been acquired by Twilight series film studio Summit Entertainment, according to The New York Times.

As a consequence of that rights acquisition, at least one writer has taken the plunge in suggesting that Polanski should line up as the director for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

IFC's Stephen Saito states that "I think it's time to start a push for the newest member of the Summit family to direct the fourth and final installment in the Twilight books."

While Saito acknowledges the fact that most Twilight fans have been pushing for The Twilight Saga: New Moon director Chris Weitz to helm the project since before the first screening of the movie, he states that there are several reasons why Polanski is a good fit - not the least of which is, "I'd have to suggest the austerity of the director of Rosemary's Baby might be able to come up with something even better" in reference to the birthing scene(s).

Of course, you'll know that there have been other directors pushed around in the suggestion box, including Gus Van Sant (mentioned by Robert Pattinson) and Tim Burton (by Jamie Campbell Bower). Ultimately, though, the matter rests in the balance.

Thoughts on the idea of a Polanski-run Breaking Dawn?

Also, rumours have been that Chris Weitz could return.... It's so difficult right now not knowing, though I realize as fans we ALWAYS want more... I feel so frustrated since Summit won't announce #1 - Breaking Dawn is a go (we all know it will be) #2 - If it will be two movies (we all think it should be) #3 - Who is directing it? #4 - annoucen where it will be filmed

Come on Summit!

Well, the dude is a good director.
But in his 40's, he got a 13 yr old drunk & high and had sex with her. He pled guilty, hoping for leniency, but fled the US before sentencing.
Many say he should not now be arrested and sentenced for his crime, because of his great talent. A fellow director said: "He's a brilliant guy, and he made a little mistake 32 years ago. What a shame..."
I say, LITTLE MISTAKE??!!? WTF!! - Is that what we do for talented people, we let them get away with sex crimes against a child??? I have a 13 yr old daughter, and if an old man had sex with her, my husband or I would shoot him in the privates, EVEN IF HE WAS THE MOST TALENTED PERSON EVER KNOWN TO MANKIND!
Sorry, but this issue gets me really pissed. I cannot wait for Breaking Dawn, but If Polanski directed it, I would BOYCOTT it, unless Polanski had already faced a judge, and served out the sentence for his crime.
